Thank you tanith. Very useful and have spent the last few hours phoning around. Have a couple of people going round to give quotes later this week so good result. There is something called the AgeUK London Borough building directory which lists services all over London.

An elderly relative who lives in East London needs someone to fix a loose drainpipe. Am I right in thinking that Age Concern recommend tradesmen who are reliable and have been checked as trustworthy? I know there is Check-a-trade but we once had a workman who wasn't brilliant at the job so wold rather not use them.
