Buying my new bed

Cabbie 21 A very good question! I have fitted wardrobes so they will be no bother. My chest of drawers and bedside cabinet can go into my daughter's room (only here sometimes) and the tiny back bedroom. I am toying with the idea of getting rid of my old bed now (thus sleeping on our large sofa) and then it will also be out of the way for the carpet to go down. I am having fun looking at new bedlinen on Brandalley etc..

We used to have drawers, now we have boxes but next time I'll have an ottoman style one. Two of my daughters have these now and I can see how much more stuff can easily go in there!

Both of these are gas-controlled.
The weight/type of mattress determines whether you should have slats or not. I think both are quite light to lift actually and no, the bedding seems to stay in place as they lift from the bottom.

I wouldn't be opening it every day though so I do think it's worth the small effort. Anyway, I don't pull out the boxes under my bed very often either to be honest.
The space seems enormous- must be nearly the volume of a hot tub in there!!

Like eazybee I have four drawers built into my bed. I use one for bed linen and one for summer clothes( in winter). The other two are not much use as I would need to move the bedside cabinets to get at them.
Ngaio, I wonder what you are doing with your furniture during the decorating? We have nowhere to move ours to if we get the decorators in: king size bed, small wardrobe, two chests of drawers, two bedside cabinets.

I am about to decorate my house starting with the main bedroom. I wonder if anyone has a bed which lifts up for storage. Seems like a plan but are they awkward to lift and does the bedding get messed up? Obviously, I would remove the Duvet prior to lifting. I thought this may be tidier than storage bags under the bed.

I love my lift up bed. It is a bit on the heavy side but not that difficult. I don’t bother to take any bedding off when I open it. There’s really no need as it all seems to stay in place. My previous bed had four drawers underneath but this is so much better. It gives me masses of storage space. I just have to be careful I don’t shut the cat in it as she’s in as soon as I open it up.

You also need to know that children can get in!

We have 2. Our bed lifts sideways and the mattress is supposed to stay in place because of the texture of the base. It doesn't, but that might be because I generally lift it with bedclothes on and that might affect the friction. Anyway, it takes a bit of effort to start it lifting, but then it's OK.

The spare bed lifts from the bottom. It still takes a bit of effort to get it started but not as much, then the pistons take over. Obviously with this one the mattress can't slip off.

You have to be careful with both that they don't open too fast and catch you under the chin! But they do provide much more storage space than drawers.

I have a large divan with four integral drawers, which hold bedlinen, tablecloths, my extensive wardrobe of clothes for cleaning, painting, gardening ie 'dirty', and the fourth drawer for 'things.' Very useful but you do need space either side of the bed to fully open them, and the bed is high.

We have a bed with drawers underneath which are on wheels.

I have one and it stores all my spare bedding and various other things. The bedding isn’t disturbed at all and it’s fairly easy to lift up.

Must admit I like wooden beds which go into pieces and therefore on legs so I can store things in boxes under them.. My king size has 10 large plastic boxes under it and my double 8 that is a higher bed so has bigger boxes. That way everything is within easy reach. And means I don't have to lift boxes if I don't want to. Just slid out and open.

My ottoman bed has a gas-lift mechanism and is very easy to open and close with just one hand.

Always liked the concept but worried that it might be too heavy for me to manage. However I'm sure they will be spring assisted in some way. I guess with duvet removed and fitted sheets nothing much would be disturbed. I suspect you would become more organised in not wanting to open it too often. Very difficult at the moment with no stores open to physically try them out.
