Can't believe we've been here 2 weeks tomorrow.
Slowly working our way through a to do list and waiting for lots of bits and pieces to be delivered.

Hoping everything is going well Luckygirl, do pace yourself, I was really worn out by the end of the day.

I've just come back from seeing the new tenants at the cottage as I can't find two art deco 'sideboard' pots my husband bought me - they're not there. The couple haven't moved in yet and are decorating throughout, the landlord definitely made the right choice! They are going to live there long term, and have two delightful little poodles, I'm so glad they got it. Wish I felt the same towards my house buyer!

Hope all went well with Luckygirl's move and she is now ensconced in her new home with her only worry being to unpack the multitude of boxes she no doubt has.

Five weeks since our move and I am down to only 6 boxes left to unpack well that is not counting the 3 boxes of books but I need to buy a bookcase to put those in. Hopefully I can get those 6 boxes emptied this week.

We are 2 weeks in and only have clothes in boxes and suitcases. New wardrobes aren't being built for another month at least as all the best local carpenters are booked up. The few things on the rail are the ones we are wearing...comfy and scruffy is the fashion here. Will need to dig out a couple of decent outfits as we are back to meeting outdoors this week.
I am now a five minute walk from our weekly coffee meetup in the park, it was a 40 minute walk before.

I've not unpacked my clothes yet Pittcity, I need to order the Ikea wardrobes first. I've been washing and wearing the same stuff for two weeks, but always go out in my coat, so no-one knows! Great you are a five minute walk from your coffee meet, my biggest joy is walking out of my front door to walk my dog. Impossible to do at the station.

I'm feeling very pleased with myself. I 'inherited' a six foot indoor plant, and a gigantic outdoor plant in a bright orange plastic pot. Both have gone for free within the hour on the Facebook sales page, to a very nice man who managed to cram them both into his very tiny car!

I saw on tv there is a shortage of cardboard at the moment, but I'm not tempted to keep my boxes, some of them became soggy in the garage, and some of them are all bent because they were stacked badly. Off to the recycling centre with them as soon as the wind drops.

We have got rid of loads of stuff through Facebook and got local recommendations for workmen.
Had new dining chairs delivered today, advertised the old ones and they were taken within half an hour. Yes it is satisfying.
DD1 has taken some excess garden furniture and DH has hung a new bathroom cabinet. We are now slobbing in front of the TV for the rest of the day. More deliveries and quotes tomorrow.

Deliveries and quotes have been in abundance here. Also the result of those quotes. We had the electrician here on Friday and he will be back for at least another two days. Our new desks for the study arrived and I’m expecting deliveries of storage solutions for my pantry and Mr Spice’s new bed arrived bright and early on Friday. The pool heating will be replaced starting at an ungodly hour on Thursday. Thank goodness next Friday is a holiday and we will get to sleep in.

Moving is hard work but the hard work does not stop when you have moved. There is a whole heap of other things to be taken care of.

My laptop will not hook up to the WiFi and I cannot work out how to fix it. Mr Spice’s laptop works and my iPad and phone but the laptop does not find the network. Most annoying and only happened after the power had been on and off while the electrician worked.

I saw the surgeon re my knee on Thursday and I am booked in to have it replaced in just over 4 weeks. Fingers crossed I ‘ll be able to walk without the wheely walker or crutch before too long.

After many months we are largely mask free unless visiting hospitals, aged care places or using public transport. Long may it continue.

I'm Mrs Grump today! When I viewed I didn't notice there weren't any hinges 'inside' the lounge/conservatory doors, they are outside. Combined with no keys to the window locks, makes me feel nervous. Going to be expensive.

And my pension is messed up because I stopped working in 2010, I've a shortfall of ten years NI contributions and my SP will be £150. I do have the choice of paying £800 per year to make it up, each payment will mean another £5 per week. It won't take me into a higher tax bracket, thankfully. Anyone on here not working and waiting for their pension with child care duties, make sure you claim it, you'll have the year credited.

Shandy do not forget that if your State Pension is below that of the full amount, and provided you do not have any other monies coming in and not more than ten grand in total savings, you would be entitled to claim Pension Credit which would bring the amount you receive up to the standar amount of a SP. Even if you have more the ten grand in savings, it might well be worth your while claiming this - as (at present), it just deducts one per week for each extra £500 in savings,

Thank you very much for that Franbern, I do hope everyone on here that's not working and looking after grandchildren is claiming NI for it. I do have more than £10K because of the house sale. I've just come off the phone to HMRC and have just paid for three years towards my pension - I'm going to leave it at that. I've no idea how much the new patio doors will be, and don't want to have to use a credit card, so have left an emergency buffer in my savings.

I'm delighted the local cafe are doing take away cake again, it's too windy for the beach, so going to do a long village walk with him today with cake as our reward! (He's allowed a tiny piece). The cake baker makes a lemon and courgette cake, it's fantastic. I might even get two pieces!

Shandy, you do sound as if you are beginning to find your feet in your new life and it is so cheering to read your posts which are all about the future. So many of us have followed your story with interest and affection, and the fact that things are working out is good news for for all of us.

Hi I’ve just read a few of the posts here and see lots of posters moving into new properties happily.
I am on my own now and am putting my toe into the water and want to move from where I am but not in a hurry as I haven’t decided where yet. Talking to my daughter yesterday about how I’m going to go about it she suggested that it would be less stressful if I sold my house, rented a small flat for 6/12mths with most of my things in storage thus giving me plenty of time to search for my rest of my life home without rushing.

She is an administrator at an Estate agents and says stress she she sees with people trying to juggle both sale and purchase at the same time is horrendous especially with older clients.

Are there obvious flaws with this plan? Has anyone done this successfully? I’m sure there will be good advice here.

Tanith, this is exactly what Shandy did. Her old house (he Station) finally got sold at Auction, and then she moved into a rental property, whilst she looked at different areas of the country and different types of property. Has worked out very well for her.

Obviously, it is far less stressful selling at one time, and then separately buying. Equally, obviously, there is a financial implication in this. The rental and storage costs means that much less in your coffers when buying.

Apart from that consideration thinks it is an ideal way of going about such a large change. There will still be stresses, but Yes, one of the worst is trying to get sale and purchase completions on same day with all other people in the chains.

We did this before we found our current home, we rented for a year. It meant that we weren’t forced into a lower price on our sale in order to hold onto any house that we wanted to buy.
We stuck to our price, then rented.

It also means you can test the waters of an area as it were!

Personally I would not want to rent unless I had no choice. It would take such a large chunk out of the money from your house sale. It would be over £10,000 for rent and storage for six months and it could take twice that in some cases. There's also two lots of packing/unpacking and removal fees.

It’s better than having to drop the price of your property by £10k because your buyers know that you have the house of your dreams within reach.

Having said that, when we rented we were getting good Interest Rates on the money in the Bank, so that made up for the costs of rental, we rented an unfurnished house so no storage fees. Sadly the days of high Interest Rates have long gone.

The first time we moved, we rented a garage for storage - and lived in our camper van on a friend's drive. I'd need about five garages for my stuff now!

Houses where I am go like hot cakes, I don’t intend on taking much furniture with me and my GSs assure me they’ll move my stuff in and out of storage. I’ll buy new when I’m settled and am going to seriously cut the amount of ‘stuff’ I have before I move. I was wondering where best to put the house sale money I think I’ll talk to my bank about that.
