Blimey - mask rage! It is all so sad.
Black wallpaper?? - not here! I am obsessed with light.
Hi Ellianne, we had a black wallpaper with a small white triangle in our bedroom in the 80's - it looked great, but did absorb all light.
I've just got back Lidl, I'm trying to find my dog a hard swimming pool - young man after me at the till wasn't wearing a mask and the cashier asked him to leave the shop. After a tense few seconds the young man said no, cashier said you have to wear a mask, rang the bell and the gigantic manager came. He did serve him on a separate till and said you must bring and wear a mask in here - young man said no. I'm staying in!
Oh Shandy, that was upsetting for you. I think fear and stress ( and the accompanying aggression) is becoming more of a disease than covid itself. I'm sure you were being considerate.
Good luck with the designer decorating. I'm toying with the idea of a black and white wallpaper for the inner hall, but not too modern.
Has anyone ever tried this?
But came home to a happy thing - Sophie Robinson, the designer, was looking for houses to decorate. I applied, and have heard back, and have had to send photographs of three rooms plus their sizes
Congratulations Luckygirl, so glad you made the stamp duty holiday just in time!
My solicitor is extremely competent and submitted my Title name change in March - it's only just come through, you might have to wait a few months for it.
I've just come back from having my car fixed and wanted to tell you how frightened people are here. While I was waiting I went into the Post Office, where they know me because I used to do the banking for my voluntary job at Mind. There was a queue, which I joined. I then decided to buy a padded envelope first, and went across to the sweet counter where you normally pay for them. The girl shouted really loudly, 'would you care to join the queue' - and I said I didn't want the Post Office. She shouted again, really loudly, 'I'm doing everything today'. I went back to join the queue, which I thought was for her, and another woman shouted at me and said 'you can't come through here, go round the other way!'. Someone else then shouted 'it wouldn't be spreading if people did what they were asked'. Honestly I felt like crying, the queuing system wasn't clear at all, and they were all really aggressive, I felt I might be stoned or shot
Suggest a complaint to the solicitors’ professional body once you have the money and any paperwork because you have been so badly treated. She shouldn’t get away with it.
Blimey Lucky! Good job you weren't waiting with a removal van.......
Told you so! I'm not surprised.
And breathe!
Chaotic to the end!!
I emailed my solicitor first thing this morning to ask when completion will take place and her reply was....Oh sorry, should have emailed you, it took place late yesterday afternoon.....!!
You couldn't make it up!!
I am now awaiting the transfer of the profits to my bank account....I wonder how long that might take?
How frustrating Luckygirl, so sorry to read this. Fingers crossed for tomorrow, at least you are not completing on a Friday when it's busiest.
Surely tomorrow!
What a lovely birthday surprise for you Franbern.
Disastrous communication from your solicitor Luckygirl. You could just pretend to yourself it has happened and save yourself a sleepless night!
Did I finish up owning a house today?.....di I 'eck as like.
I was reading a poem at my friend's funeral this morning and also had to ring the solicitor as she has to have my permission on the very day .....so.......I rang twice from the crem car park, once before and once after. She was not available. So.......I drove home and rang from there...not available. Eventually she rang back, got my permission, then silence.
I had to go and look after my GS as he had not been well and Mum had to go out and run Beavers; so I contacted solicitor and gave her new phone number to ring. Heard nothing, came back, no messages on phone or email.
So....we start all over again tomorrow. Watch this space!
We've got a Covid spike in our area and the doctor's surgery doors are going to be locked again, back to taking temperatures when patients arrive. Doesn't look like lockdown will be eased any time soon, I was thinking of visiting my best friend in London
Franbern, that was a lovely Birthday surprise.
What a fantastic surprise Franbern, I am so glad you had such a memorable and happy lockdown birthday.
Good luck today Luckygirl, I hope you hear soon.
I am quite sure that the spoiling was well deserved!!! What ba wonderful day for you!
Happy UNbirthday from me!
Hope all goes well today, Luckygirl.
Just had to say how fortunate I feel. My main ambition for my 80th birthday had been to try to share it with my five AC and their wives/Husbands and my eight g.children. Had talked about this for last couple of years. However I few months back I gave up any idea of trying to ararnge anything - far too many difficulties in the way.
So, my daughter down here said she would just take me out for the day, and my son and DiLcame down the day beforehand (Saturday) for a visit and a meal out. Said 'goodbye' to them late Saturday night.
Was just a little surprised when collected that my SiL and all four of their children were in the vehicle, but got more perplexed as the journey took over two hours. My daughter said, it was a meal out at a pub, and reason for long journey was this pub had a wonderful' view'.
Yes, it most definitely did!!! At the far end of the decking, in a roped off area with an open fronted large shed area, tables laid out, banners and balloons all up were ALL my family!!! (inluding the son an d DiL I had said farewell to the previous evening.
Such a wonderful, happy, delightful surprise - and a beautiful and gorgeous cake made by one of my daughters.
I am now basking in the enjoyable feeling of being very spoilt and extremely happy. I am so very very fortunate.
I've just contacted a friend from the distant past, we only keep in touch with Christmas cards now. I am amazed she has sold her magnificent pile, I never thought they'd move. Unfortunately she is very anxious as they can't find anywhere to move to, fingers crossed for her, she does have an extremely healthy budget
.
No way, Luckygirl. Don't they think to check all this in advance?
Hang in there!
So sorry Luckygirl. It's astounding the builder's solicitor organised the completion date with your solicitor, then goes off and out. Thank heavens we are both in our final 'forever' homes, I don't think I could sell and buy a house again. I read back through the early days on here when I was mosaicwarts, this thread supported me through some terrible times.
I've just come on because I've received a huge package of guarantees etc (including the defunct timber one) from my solicitor, including the Title - I'd never given it a second thought, ha ha! It was nice that he said 'we do miss you very much as a neighbour'
Luchgirl...Oh no! Your path has certainly not been smooth! Still at least you are safely in.
Guess what?! - builder's solicitor is away today so it will have to wait till Monday!!!
Lucky so very, very pleased for you. Another story with a happy ending, albeit with so many trials and tribulations along the way.
I have found the controls on this chair very simple, they all have small pictures, so foolproof. Discovered that at night they are also lit up (not too brightly) so can be easily used in the dark. Must say that for the first time since I fractured my spine, nearly two and half years ago, I can sit comfortably without having loads of cushions. This built in lumbar cushions on this, which I can control separately to anything else, are wonderful.
Last night my Alexa would not turn off or on my lights. Tried all the normal switching eveything off and on again - but no use. So, this morning contacted my 'computer specialist' (my local son-in-law), who then told me that the server had gone down las night cauksing mayham on this throughout the country. So .....it was not me. All back to normal now.
Luckygirl - congratulations on completion of your purchase.
