How do I soften a linen top?

I’ve never been able to wear linen I’m afraid: always find it itchy.

I have a pure linen blouse, but I always have to wear a vest top under it. Even after several washes it remains scratchy.

Soaking overnight in one gallon of water with a cup of white vinegar added before washing.

Blossoming, I read that on the internet, but does it not smell forever of vinegar?

Has it been washed? I wear linen all the time and it’s not scratchy. The more you wash it the softer it becomes.

You could try steaming it? Linen responds to moisture so it’s worth a go.

I have two summer tops both linen same style. I have had a few years now they have never lost their texture no matter how many times washed. I have used every fabric softener on them.

Not really no as linen is a natural fabric.

Sorry I've only just seen your comment. Linen can be difficult to make any change to as it's a natural fabric even washing a garment numerous times.

What a pity Sophiasnana as I’m sure it is a lovely jacket.
I have a linen top and I wash by hand and soak in a fabric conditioner rinse.
It’s not scratchy but it has only cap sleeves.

It shouldn’t, it’s a very weak solution and any lingering smell should disappear when you rinse and wash it afterwards.

I fell out with linen a year or so ago, having caught sight of myself in a dress that looked like a dishrag after half an hour of wear, and was scratching my neck and armpits. I couldn't wait to get home and take it off. I envy those who can wear it and not look too crumpled. There must be a secret.
