Double Glazing

We are replacing 2 bays ( requiring extra strength support) and two smaller windows. We had two local companies quote, then noticed that a neighbour was having a different local company replacing his windows and they were doing an excellent job. We asked that company for the third quote. It was half the other two prices.
The important thing is to make sure that they are registered with FENSA and can give you a certificate to say the windows comply with building regulations. If you were to sell your property the buyers would request this certificate to show that the new windows didn’t contravene the regulations.

You have to haggle! My neighbour, 3 bed end of terrace, haggled down from £7.5k to just about £6.5 Including a new front door. I’m talking recently, during April. All’s just been installed. Looks great. We’re in the South West, below Bristol. Get more than one quote.

If it helps to compare, I've just looked out the invoice for our new doors and windows which were installed in October 2018.
Eight large windows, 1 small window and three fully glazed doors came to £7840 including VAT. This was a medium sized local company with a good reputation. They weren't the cheapest or the most expensive quote we got but they were the people we felt most confident would do a good job... and they did.

I’ve found in the past that they’ll eventually drop the price quite a bit if they know you have other quotes

Thank you for your replies. Yes I've got other quotes in the past, but was hoping this time it would be more reasonable.
Ah well. onwards and upwards. I'll try some more people and some local builders.

As others advised, get at least two more quotes, ask locally for references and beware anyone who offers to do it quickly. All the good tradesmen are very busy.

My builder gets his windows straight from the factory and for the windows we did it was about half the price of quotations from well known window suppliers.
I suggest you try to find a local tradesman to quote.

We spent 8K on double glazing 7/8 yrs ago included a new front door and I’m in London a 2 bed house. In comparison 10K doesn’t sound over priced but I agree get 2 more quotes.

Always get more than one quote. Also you do not need to do the whole house at once so that would spread the cost a bit.
