My sitting room has beige colour carpet, sofa and white walls. To be honest it looks a bit dull although recently redecorated, looking to brighten it up with curtains, cushions etc. Any suggestions for colours that won’t grate after a while, so no orange or lime green and definitely not grey with beige.

Colour scheme for living room
(21 Posts)I have seen a shiny turquoise on curtains, cushions and colour accents in a friend’s house and thought it worked really well with beige and white.
I was going to suggest curtains with a “botanical” pattern on a white background and cushions picking out the brightest colours.
I was going to suggest turquoise/teal or cerise soft furnishings .
Thank you,I’m going to look today at a big well known store, I had my eye on palest gold, but I need a statement colour and design to put some spark into it.
My last property had all white walls.
You have to be bold with white walls. I had several bold rugs on my walls.
If you have some pictures on the wall paint the picture frames: terracotta, black? Not gold, that’s the same old, same old with what you have.
Or, look in charity shops for frames and buy bold prints on line.
Teal, raspberry, copper, indigo.
What about this (below) with a pop of raspberry or a deep rose colour?

Try buying cushions and possibly a small rug in an accent colour before you invest in curtains. I have a similar scheme to yours and accent it with deep fuchsia in cushions and a throw; the curtains are cream linen and I would not change them. Do you have a favourite picture you could use as a starting point for colour accents?
Must admit I have chosen colours in my bungalow I never thought I would like. I went with an open mind when choosing them . My carpets in living room and bedrooms are pale grey. Bedrooms lilac walls and white ceiling and woodwork. Aubergine curtains. Living room walls are frosted steel with white ceiling and woodwork. Charcoal curtains. Hall is almond white walls and ceiling and white woodwork. Hall and kitchen floors Karndean wood effect . Olive green kitchen units. Can't remember name of tiles but pale cream white goes well with almond white walls and ceiling. My shower room has Artemis white tiles on wall which is a pale grey and Artemis grey floor tiles. Toilet etc white with stainless steel taps and hand rails. Had a lovely green compost front door. All the colours I have chosen are completely different from my old house. But I think they are timeless .
It's funny in a way choosing colours etc that I like and not having to compromise with what my husband would have liked. I miss him everyday but since moving got my identity back. Sounds odd I know. But here people know me not wife then widow or just the children's mom . I wasn't expecting to feel that but it is very freeing.
I have exactly the same quandary.
My decorators finished my living room yesterday and I have gone for all white walls.
My carpet is pale sand and my suite dark cream.
It is a large room with large windows , one end wall to wall so I don’t want anything that hits you in the eye when you walk in and when they are drawn.
I am having new pictures when I see something I like but am thinking of corn coloured curtains and then using pops of colour in small things like cushions and possibly table lamps.
Good luck with your choice OP, mine will have to be right as it has to “see me out”?
My living room walls are white, blinds and sofa are cream, white and gold cushions. Large crackle gold framed mirror. Copper based side lamps.
Wooden floors and a large aztec design rug.
I have chosen Cerise pink as my colour 'pop' in my front room. I have curtains and a couple of cushions in this colour. The carpet is a taupe colour with cream furniture with grey piping. 3 walls are painted a soft creamy colour and the fourth wall is wallpaper which has toning colours and a bit of a shimmer. I always have a couple of bunches of pink toned roses or other flowers in the room and a couple of prints which add interest. Most people when they see the room comment on how nice it looks. I love the rosy glow when the sun hits the curtains first thing in the morning and shows on the wall, it makes the room look warm and cosy. I am on the lookout for a couple of nice table lamps to complement everything at the moment. I really hope you find what you are looking for.
All my rooms are white. Living room has beige suite and carpet, beige curtains with large leaves that are various shades of green, matching cushions and lampshades.
Main bedroom curtains mid grey, everything else varying shades of grey.
Back bedroom all furnishings various shades of blue.
Bathroom tiles shades of brown, light to dark, towels vary from white to dark brown. Kitchen mainly cream with brown and white tiles, stainless steel lights and fittings.
Hall grey carpet and light fittings.
Sunroom white and grey.
I love it.
Thank you everyone it’s so nice getting ideas, I didn’t realise how much strength I must have lost, because viewing curtain at a well known store I could hardly lift them, I used to make my own for the same windows and bag line and then hang them. I came away empty handed, they all have to be shortened and don’t think I can wrestle with them. .
Having used similar colours, I have two Scott Naismith prints which are very colourful. If you like them, you could pick out and use a few colours to tie in your scheme.
Without remembering I had them, my DiL bought another of his prints so I can’t be too old-fashioned! The postie has admired them through the side window too!
Ive got most of my rooms co=ordinating so that I can swap things round. I've gone for a modern taupe/grey which tends to tone with anything. Ive gone for navy accents but I really struggled to find blue decorative items which weren't glass.
If you google x colour room ideas you can get lots of lovely ideas and see any that you like. You can specify which room you want to get ideas for too. I often google shabby chic ideas just for fun. It’s nearly as good as Rightmove. ?
My room has very light mushroom walls (which need repainting ..). Grey sofa duck egg chairs similar colours in curtains and a rug on oak floor.,
Cushions of all those colours plus a bit of citrus .. very few Knick knacks but 9 pictures on walls. I love it
Curtains 2 go.. Have a look at colours they send you free samples on the ones you select.
This might give you an idea what works. It's free you will be surprised what you thought works doesn't and visa versa.
Agree tho go bold. Have fun
