I believe all councils have lists of people needing to move. In our area it's called Homefinder. It may be quicker to involve ss of her need to move nearer to you for support. May take six weeks which if quicker than being in gold, silver or bronze. These colour codes are used to assess priority. Eg homeless, who generally are top of list. Get her needs assessed by ss, its quicker

Register with the homeswapper site, should be free. You can also see if there is a letting policy run by your local council which will allow someone needing support, from family, to get some priority on list. You can also search homeswapping groups on facebook, there are loads, so try searching relevant areas.

Mother in law lives in Guildford in a 3 bed council house in rural area, and has lived there for nearly 50 years. She would like to move near us in Old Basing, Basingstoke to a smaller council house/bungalow with garden as she is an avid gardener. Does anyone know how to even start this process? do we contact Surrey council first, or Basingstoke council? anyone gone through this process of moving elderly relatives nearer? council swap or exchange? many thanks!
