Rising Damp

We had it downstairs last year, didn’t realise till I was vacuuming and the skirting board just disintegrated.
Called our usual builder, who didn’t seem particularly concerned, and it was all fixed quickly and efficiently.
I was expecting it to be much more of a problem.

If its "real" rising damp, either you have no damp proof course or its been breached (damaged) or bridged by other building works or sometimes by plants growing up, or its been bridged by being buried, either because the house has settled or soil deposits have grown up. Can you see your DPC anywhere to trace it round the building? have you got heavy planting or a build up of soil where the damp is? Other than those self help steps. you need to get a specialist in.

Yes we have a dpc ..the wall in the bedroom is moist and the carpet in that area is moist also...its an interior wall...hallway on the other side of it seems ok

We thought we had damp , it was a tiny leak in the central heating pipes , get it looked at sooner than later

Ours was an interior wall, right in the middle of the house.

We've just had the damp course done in our lounge and hallway and it cost £1700, we did it ourselves in the dining room after watching how they did it, the size of the job depends whether it has affected the plaster on the walls.

Heck Shandy57 have got the phone number off there...I think we have had many damp problems since having cavity wall insulation..H disagrees..but then it was his idea to have it re a free government scheme..

My house was listed, and the buyer tried to get £50K off for the 'rising damp'. I did some research and this article led me to investigate further so I knew it was only because gypsum plaster had been used, not lime, the walls couldn't breathe. Easily remedied without any 'plastic membranes'.
