Shandy, I know exactly how you feel re not mixing freely because of covid and especially because you are on your own, like me. I feel that `limited` time is passing me by and so quickly too.

yes josieann, TJ used to drink in cowbridge, myy dd had a weekend job as barmaid. That prog was disappointing, pity, I was hoping to see some local houses at normal prices. I used to ride all around there, including through penllyn.

Well I haven't bought anything yet marymary62, you've reminded me to! When I moved into the rented property I decluttered and gave away my basic unscented candles and wish I'd kept them. I had a horrible assortment of smells when my electricity was off.

I'm just watching Swansong on Apple tv and having a break, it's sad.

I'm a bit despairing too because of Covid, I never imagined almost two years later we'd still have to be so careful. We humans are such social creatures aren't we, so many of the things I want to do involve being with people.

I've been writing my bucket list on and off today, and have just found an on-line Spanish course. I did French at school but want to learn Spanish as it really annoyed me in New York when the hotel reception staff were obviously talking about me. I'll have to go back - but not in February again, I've never been as cold!

And as Shandy 57 says a plug in corded phone is great - though these are becoming obsolete I fear. Power bank is a brilliant idea but keep it charged ! I flattened the car battery trying to charge my phone ... just another problem ! And now so much Covid - how are people feeling ? I’m a bit despairing I hate to say, feel robbed of so much, we all have been.

Yes it’s a great idea to have back up for a power cut - Storm Arwen shows they are not a thing of the past and help was slow in coming . I’d recommend making sure you have good LED torches and lanterns to hand, including a head torch for reading . Candles are so dangerous really and our neighbour got hot wax all over her brand new carpet. If you have a gas hob make sure you have a means of lighting it without the electric spark. Gas fires also. We have log burners but our neighbours didn’t so they had to borrow a mobile gas heater. Just make a plan for how you’d manage without electric and make sure you are on their priory list if needed ( though that didn’t help a lot of people) - after 5 days we were offered a hotel but didn’t go as who wants to do that in a pandemic !

You've reminded me to get a plug in corded phone in case of future power cuts, as well as a power bank for my mobile. When my children were at home they'd entertain us on the guitar or the piano during the power cuts, it's the silence that gets to me now

My husband got covid 4 days after his booster but was ok - I didn’t catch it but it was 2 weeks after mine .....
Saw both daughters and grandkids for Xmas - very happy . Youngest has finally got a moving date of 21st Jan - well maybe ...... it’s been months as the people are moving to a new build and it’s been put back and put back ...Fortunately her buyers have hung on . Eldest daughter ( who is divorcing and moving out of family home ) had to change solicitors as first one had sat on the contract did a month without doing anything .... she planned to be in by Xmas but obvs isn’t . The property we are buying is via the children (POA) of a person who is now very ill and may sadly not be around much longer so then it will go to probate .... and so it will go on a bit longer. Cant say I want to move in the middle of winter but if I get rid of any more stuff we have nothing to move anyway ?. Sorry to hear about damp and water problems - we had no power for 10 days and then the boiler broke down 2 days before Xmas .... luckily it was fixable so we didn’t have to get the tin bath out for in front of the fire ....

Thanks karmalady, I will watch. Cowbridge is a lovely town, that long high street with great shops. My favourite pupil, who moved there, invited me to stay, she lived just outside in Penllyn. The back garden was on terraces that went up and up and up. I went back more recently for her father's birthday party. The train journey from Cardiff was pretty. Didn't Tom Jones live in Cowbridge?

Morning all, raining horribly and it's come in everywhere in the night Good its a concrete floor but I'm going to have to put the drying machine on, it's so hot and noisy.

My IFA said he thought the bungalow had gone up in price Josiann, and my son reminded me of this on Friday. It made me feel better about the wet rot bill - so glad I didn't offer more 'over asking' to get it. I can't see the point of having one room with floorboards and will be asking for a revised quote with chipboard. So funny I had secretly hoped for parquet!

Speaking of London, apparently prices of property outside the capital have surged again this year. Once again it seems that coastal and country houses are the strongest performers. I do find the latter quite surprising because when you watch the re location type programmes all the young people, (and they are the ones with the money), want properties near bars, restaurants etc. I can't see that you can have both that easily.

I am glad that christmas is pretty well over, 2022 just has to be better than the past two years, anyway I am wishing you all the very best

My son, 50, in scotland has got covid, caught we think a week after his booster. He is feeling grotty and ill. I am trying not to worry. My brother near Liverpool also has covid, again a week after booster.

Off to wales for a few hours tomorrow, small family gathering but I am leaving early in order to not be driving in the dark. After that is back to normal for me.

Its the dark dismal month, next month and february will be very much colder and I hope brighter

Three of my younger g.children (all Year 7) have had Covid over the past couple of weeks. All are well now, the one down here is finally testing negative now and will probably pop over with his Mum to see me tomorrow. They are all rising 12 years of age, but will now have to wait a little longer for their vaccine as they have now had the actual illness.
Must say I have really enjoyed my Christmas at home (although wish I had not been unwell also), very relaxing and I could watch what I wanted, when I wanted on tv.
Just noticed that some of the kitchen companies are offering five year interest free. I have saved about two thirds what I reckon this will cost me (and I am working that out on the extravagent side), so must say I am tempted. But will wait until I am home before going any further.

Oh so sorry Franbern, best wishes for your recovery. I felt awful yesterday, almost like a hangover but only chocolate has passed my lips! Might have been a caffeine overdose!

Raining all Christmas Day and yesterday but the surveyor had done the best he could, water is only coming in at two places. I was glad to see the fence panel on the roof, he'd used it to secure more plastic.

I really dislike this period between Christmas and New Year, I wish I'd bought a Radio Times, we always used to do the big crossword.

Hi everyone, hope the weekend went well for you all. I stayed in my flat the whole time. My head cold turned out to be a re-occurrance of my bronchitus. Daughter made daily visits to me bringing over lots of Xmas food and goodies so I had virtually no cooking to do. Use the anti-biotics GP gave me just over a month ago, which I did not use then as was well on road to recovery. These have helped to ensure that I have not been as bad this time, and can feel it getting better now.
Phone calls from each of my children and techie messages from some g.children on 25th. My eldest g.child popped over yesterday to see me with his Mum. it really poured with rain on Christmas day was grateful I was not going out in it.
I still hope to be going to London by train on Wednesday (home on Friday), the train I had booked on has now been cancelled, so I will need to make contact with Passenger Services to re-make my support arrangements. Today, I have a Sainsburys delivery and apart from that have today and tomorrow still indoors to try to complete my recovery.

Hope everyone managed to have a peaceful and relaxed Christmas. Shandy hope the weather stayed dry!

Thanks for all the good wishes, so nice of you to write. I am hoping for a dry Christmas too! Last night was bad but I keep telling myself it's only water, and I know I can't be electrocuted now, ha ha!

Shandy I think the best thing I can wish for you is a Happy, DRY Christmas. No listening to rain beating down on the tarpaulin! No bailing out. I sincerely wish you and all on this thread, which I read regularly, a safe, healthy and happy Christmas and a very Happy, problem free New year.

Forgot to add that our next door neighbours bungalow and one just up the road, have both sold before being put on the market, at good prices, bungalows are so popular, but I wonder if they will be turned into houses?

MissOops has to get out of their rental by end of Feb, not a nice Christmas gift from the Landlord, so her search for an affordable rental will begin next week, poor kid she just gets settled when the Landlords (this is the 3rd time) put the houses up for sale and give them notice.
