My DS and partner regret buying a leather suite as it's quite slippery and you can't get really comfortable on it. However, the cats have never scratched it - they have a scratching post and several trees.

I’ve got a cat. He’s got scratching posts. We’ve got new fabric sofas and he hasn’t scratched them.

My memory of leather is of it being slippery, sweaty when it’s hot and not particularly comfortable so definitely fabric for me.

My cat never scratches the leather sofa.

Never leather for me.
I’ve only had 3 sofas in my life one with removable, washable covers. Still have it but it’s a bit battered now so is in husbands office where it doubles up as a spare bed.
We are now on our second velvet one. Velvet seems to be very forgiving IMO.

Fabric here. Leather is cold and noisy and any cushions or throws slide about.

Leather when the boys were young as it was practical , but fabric since then .
Warm and cosy.

Although I'm vegan, I have a pair of leather sofas. They were given to me ten years ago - and still look new. The dog jumps on them with muddy paws (or a kid spills their drink) and I can wipe them over with a damp microfibre cloth.

The cat hasn't harmed them. She lies on her side on the corner stair and does her claws on the carpeted riser.

Having said that, my mother looked after a colleague's six toed cat while they holidayed. Overnight, it ripped a leather tub chair to shreds - and spent the rest of it's holiday in the shed!

I've had a few leather settees and have owned cats for 40 years. Not one cat has ever scratched them. We've just had 2 new leather sofas, about 3 weeks ago. Our 3rd lot.

Fabric or Leather, can honestly say have never owned a faux leather one, so I think I’m swaying towards another fabric, and as I have cats who I’m sure despite having several cat trees and scratching posts would love to get scratching on the leather opinions please
