How do you do yours? I have started doing mine with a handbrush as i cant be doing with the faff of the cord from the hoover. I can not afford a trip or fall especially not on the stairs. I remember doing the stairs this way as a young girl. It was my job at the weekend to do this for mum. We had carpet in the middle and white paint either side. Handbrushed all the way to the bottom then the bits and pieces were sucked up with the hoover. I think mum use to run the hoover over them every couple of weeks to do a more through job, but i wont even be attemptig that!!!!

I used to clean our stairs in France with a dustpan and brush, the steps just had sort of carpet pads stuck on to stop you slipping on the stone.
The cleanest our stairs have ever been here was when we had the hall/stairs/landing decorated. The painter put some clear plastic? from a roll all the way up to protect the carpet, when he took it up at the end, the carpet was pristine, it sort of adhered and gently pulled all the dirt out. I could do with a roll of whatever it was. Now I vacuum, carefully!

We have a 3-storey house with lots of stairs. I sweep ours with a rubber hand brush, it’s great for getting rid of hairs and fluff, which tend to clog up the vac. I then pick up the bits with a g-tech handheld cordless vac.

I use a rubber brush which gets the dust out of the pile. Starting at the top, I end up with dust and debris at the bottom to be sucked up by the vacuum cleaner.

Try putting on a pair of rubber gloves and brush the carpet with your hands, it's great if you've got a cat or dog .

What also works is a damp cloth.. Start at the top, wipe all over and roll the bits down the stars. Works a treat.

I've got a Dyson animal cordless. The new version is good as its easy to empty, unlike it's predecessor. For the stairs you change the nozzle so it becomes a handheld. Good for the car too.

I bought a cordless Dyson just for the stairs, but I still prefer to sweep down each step and then vacuum at the bottom.

Cordless handheld Dyson with the brush attachment set on maximum.

When I had stairs (in my last house), with a light cream carpet, the rule was no outdoor shoes in my house.
I used to use a hard brush to on it once a week - when this became too much for m e I reverted to using the hand held section of my GTech. was light, and very easy and pretty effecive.
Every couple of years I would get them cleaned by a professional carpet cleaning firm.
When I left the house, this carpet had been inplace for eight years and looked as clean and bright as when first down.

I remember brushing the stairs too———-now I sometimes use one of Costco’s sticky rollers to pick tiny bits up,in between vacuuming, works brilliantly, next move definitely a single level.
