Gas Boilers

We’ve had one for years next to the boiler and take a spare, as you suggest Chestnut for holiday rentals.

I thought everyone had carbon monoxide alarms because the dangers have been known about for years. And when you go on holiday why not take one with you just to be on the safe side?

And why would covid stop you getting your boiler serviced? Plumbers, electricians etc. are still working as normal.

I have an alarm, a few feet away from the boiler. It was fitted when the boiler was put in. They should be compulsory like fire alarms.

We have smoke and carbon monoxide alarms at each level in the house and a CO alarm near the gas boiler. I'm trying to decide what to do about our elderly gas boiler before they ban them. I had a quote of nearly £30K for an air source heat pump system - impossible!

This is part of the new law coming into effect in Scotland in February (delayed by a year due to pandemic). All homes to have them and also interconnected fire alarms on each floor, living room and heat detector in kitchen. We got them from Amazon last year then was delayed. DH fitted them but can be hardwired which would need electrician.

We have carbon monoxide alarms close to every combustion appliance in our home; 2 boilers and a wood-burning stove and have done for at least 10 years. We also have a fire extinguisher and blanket by the cooker and fire extinguisher near to the stove.

When we had an open fire a piece of firewood exploded and sparks went over the fireguard and landed in an upholstered chair that instantly started to burn quite fiercely. Thankfully I was next to the chair at the time and grabbed a cushion and pressed it on the flames and put them out.

When we had the wood burner installed the installer insisted on fitting a carbon monoxide alarm in the room. The gas boiler is in the loft, where the people before us had it installed, so I guess no risk from it. If there is a risk why don’t they come with a warning?

I thought everyone had to have a carbon monoxide alarm? A local man very sadly lost both of his son's on their fishing boat because they didn't have one.

Having been poisoned by carbon monoxide many years ago I’ve had one since they came out.

Another reason it's good they will be phased out. .
