Thanks everyone. The doghouse door has been opened grin

Good news that the stain is gone. I have found the best thing to deal with stains on clothes, carpets etc is a wet wipe.

Glad it's gone Kate1949. I use Vanish on carpets for stains which seems to help with DGC stains and cat stains (alas no longer have these).

Thanks everyone. It's gone! grin

Thank. I'm not sure eazybee. Since we've had the carpet we don't wear shoes to go upstairs. We're not in the slightest houseproud, it's just very annoying.

I wouldn't think mascara would be visible to the naked eye.
What about tar caught in the sole of a shoe?

Let it dry and then according to how deep it’s gone and the pile of your carpet carefully cut it out ( obviously if it’s not too big)

Thank you. I think it's been there for a couple of days so I think it's dry. DH is gently rubbing it with diluted washing liquid as we speak!

Let it dry it might be easier to brush or pick off then.

Can anyone help please? We have a new mid grey carpet on our stairs and landing. There is a small black blob on the landing. My husband says it looks like mascara so I am in the doghouse, although how that would happen is beyond me. Any ideas for getting it off? We are worried we'll make it worse. Thank you.
