Easy to clean toilet seat

I’m afraid we no longer have the packaging but we have 2 white wooden seats with metal fittings from B and Q. They’re easy to clean and we’re happy with them.

But yes, I too have to try really hard not to just let go of the lid in other people's houses !

I’ve had a basic soft close one from B&Q it’s easily cleaned and hasn’t moved in 5 years.

I have a soft close lidded seat which allows me to press a button and lift the entire seat and cover off. I leave this in the bath with soapy water whilst I clean the bathrooms. It's then washed and dried and clicks back onto the loo. Spotless and no fiddling with difficult fixings.

A little tip. Sometimes you find a stain on a plastic toilet seat which won’t be moved by bleach etc. Magic sponge ereaser does it easily. No idea why.

Years ago I had a continuous problem with the toilet seat working loose every few days. I eventually replaced it only to quickly find the same problem of it working loose. A friend recommended buying the most basic and cheapest white seat from Argos as she found them best for staying secure. She’d tried an tested a few! I took her advice and fitted the cheapest Argos one 6 years ago and it has never worked loose since. It was around £7 when I bought it and very simple to fit.

I’ve lived at my current address for 15 years and in this time I’ve bought at least 4 toilet seats. It’s the plastic fittings that eventually just fall apart and as MayBee70 says they cannot be replaced. It’s so wasteful and environmentally unfriendly. My biggest concern though is being able to clean the thing properly. I’ve resorted to using an old toothbrush but even this doesn’t clean the revolting plastic hinges.

Some people on Facebook have said they take the whole seat off and soak it in bleach. Everything about the toilet I had fitted is awful. I read that mens shaving foam is good for cleaning toilets so I’ve tried that. Maybe a clever designer should reinvent the toilet.

(the trouble is - they are all soft close too - very nice, but I tend to habitually slam down the loo lids in other people's houses!)

We had a loo seat that would 'slide about' when sat on - very annoying. I got new fixings and problem solved. (you do need to get decent ones of the right size.

All our seats are the top fixing, push button, removeable type to make cleaning easier.

This has happened to mine. Also, annoyingly, it’s an unusual shape and I can’t get a replacement for the seat or the fittings. I tried to find replacement fittings from shops and on the internet but couldn’t. I’m probably going to end up replacing the whole lot which goes against my zero waste policy. I couldn’t believe I couldn’t just get replacement fittings when one bit broke. The shop that fitted the toilet sold me their last replacement seat (it was slightly damaged but they refused to reduce the price because they knew I was desperate. We did try to fix the original fitting but, because it’s plastic, it just broke. I might be able to find a contact number of an internet company that helped me and I did see a universal fitting on the internet but that didn’t fit either.
