Thanks Hetty - I very rarely do chips in oil, but the next time I do I will try this.

I don't have an air fryer, but I will put my oven on convection and do either frozen or fresh roasted potatoes cut into small pieces with a small amount of oil and lots of herbs.

I buy frozen French fries, cook them in my air fryer (10 minutes) using a teaspoonful of oil and they are to die for. Absolutely delicious. No smell and little mess afterwards. I usually pop the two items for washing into the dishwasher.

All this talk of chips is making me want to go down and raid my fridge /freezer?

If you cook your own, twice cook. Once to cook through, then take out, drain on kitchen paper and cool a little. I just leave them for fiv minutes or so then reheat oil when ready to eat and refry and they are fluffy inside and crispy outside.

CanadianGran, home made chunky chips, coated in a very little rapeseed oil (shake in a bag or pan) and cooked in an air fryer - perfection.

Yes, frozen ones cook nicely in the deep fryer.

A question for those that make them from scratch; how do you make them crispy? Mine are always a bit soggy.

Yesterday I cooked some 'real' chips from scratch, and they were so noticeably delicious I decided oven chips are rubbish in comparison.
But I'm a lazy cook, and peeling and chopping those potatoes is just not going to happen. So, the easy way would be ready prepared part coked frozen chips, only I didn't want to fill a chip pan with oil just to find I'd spoiled it by using oven chips.

I've been buying the McCain Gastro oven chips, really nice. Crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, a nice flavour too.

Yes you can! My 2 sons, one prefers oven chips, youngest insists i fry them! They seem to cook a bit faster though?

Yes, you can, usually.

I suppose you could but they are already coated with oil so I’m not sure how they would turn out. Why? May I ask
