Anyone got Alexa

Well obviously I ve never lived ?
Didn’t know I needed one ? no one in my family has one none of my children or friends have them, so it’s never been in my eyeline to have one
Think I ll leave it i can’t think of anything I can’t do without it and it’s just using more electricity

She also helps me to Nerdle!
I call out calculations and she does them for me. We work as a team
‘Alexa - what’s 13 times 6?’

I love how polite she is.

Two of mine are Echo Shows.
They are actually little TVs, you can watch anything that is on Amazon Prime Video on them.

Interesting. We don't have Alexa, but I do have an Apple Watch. I can't turn on the lights, but can do most other things from my wrist including listening to music. It will alert somebody if I fall and I can call the emergency services by pressing a button. It has just wished me good morning and given a report on the weather. Siri answers my questions, I can take phone calls and respond to messages and I also have a speaking translation app. I love it.

We have a couple, mostly for the radio. However she tells me the time in the middle of the night, turns on the lights, works out facts which I find difficult like percentages, tells us history facts and all manner of other things. Plus she is polite! She can’t make me a cup of coffee though!

Whisper mode might be useful when your voice is hoarse Charleygirl.
I whisper to the echo spot in my bedroom, and she whispers back.

Alexa is my kitchen timer, shopping list, radio. she displays photographs and I watch you tube cooking tutorials on her.
She will also phone family and friends.
She does listen but I have nothing to hide.
£60 well spent?

Did I mention the Sonos System, which connects to Alexa, Kate, including two porable ones DH takes out, when mowing the grass. The neighbours must love him! Not!

I have an Alexa. She now lives under the stairs. Unplugged. Drove me mad when the grandchildren came and started demanding that Shark song.

She plays the shark song? Hells bells, I'll have to plug her back in for when him indoors gets back!! Haha, it'll drive him up the wall!

We have four kitchen dining room two bedrooms. I think its brilliant addition to your home but she often gets sworn at in our house!

Only got an echo dot but wouldn’t be without it. She reminds me of things that I am quite likely to forget and also listen to most of my favourite music. Sometimes I do shout at her if she can’t answer a simple question….??

I have 2 and have just bought a 3rd in a sale. I cannot live without the dot in my bedroom- she gives me a flash briefing of the news, sets the alarm if requested and tells me what the weather is like outside.

I am partially sighted so for things like timers for me they have been invaluable. I believe you can ask her to erase all memory but I have not tried it yet.

Occasionally my voice is hoarse so she does not recognise it.

At times I have been given the weather in India-interesting but I prefer my part of London.

I wasn't boasting. When we realised how useful they were, when I was unwell, we kept adding to them. Kate. They have been a godsend!

Well Marydoll and Kitty you have both outdone me with your 6 and 5 respectively, I feel like the poor relation ?

Kitty I have an annual sub to the Calm app which plays a vast variety of sleep stories. I listen to one every night to help me ignore the bloomin’ clattering going on in my head. The stories and descriptions are so varied, sometimes I catch a train from Italy to England, or I am up near Antarctica, or cruising down the Nile and often in the last century. Eric Braa is my favourite I only have to hear his voice for a few minutes and I am off with the fairies. Your DH might benefit from it. I listen with one earphone in.

Bought mine as we live in a digital radio dead spot. Since buying the first one we have acquired three more.
We have a first gen echo show in the kitchen. It has a screen which will show photos, recipes, shopping list, and appointments. You can also set a reminder and add events to your calendar. I have all the family birthdays on mine. It is a most useful tool.

DH has an echo dot in his room, I have an echo spot in mine
and in the living room we have an echo show 5.

If you decide to buy one I think you will find it ver useful.

And Radio …

I have two, (Alexa dot I think it’s called) one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen. The bedroom one is fantastic. It sets my morning alarm, my ToDo list, shopping list, does Quizzes, latest news. And best of all, I get it to do the sounds of the Rainforest, which sets me off to sleep at night.

I could contact my husband by phone too, if I am upstairs.
Unfortunately he has a policy of never answering phones. a legacy from before he retired. Phone calls always mean trouble is afoot.
He cannot ignore Alexa, especially as I have a voice like a foghorn.

Yep! DH wanted one so bought it for me for Christmas

I fancied getting one but nothing I have read has convinced me so far. We have nine radios around the house, a kitchen timer, no teenagers to shout at, no small grandchildren to entertain, and DH can already contact me by phone in a different room. I don’t fancy paying out for more gadgets to increase the electricity bill, so I am not convinced. We are not anti- tech, far from it. I will keep reading though.

We have a couple one in the kitchen and Bose speaker that has Alexa in the lounge. Saves a lot of hassle - Alexa play some Christmas music, or whatever. The Bose is good quality sound. In the kitchen it reminds me to put the bins out. Ask it if it's asleep. Or sing a duet with Ed Sheeran........ My dog doesn't like it at all.

Oh I forgot about that, 1summer. Our outside Christmas lights were controlled by Alexa. Our wee grandaughter was fascinated with what she thought, were magic powers.

Love our Alexa, we have them connected to smart plugs which is useful for switching lamps, radio, Christmas lights etc on and off. Great when your away, you can control from the app. You can listen to any music you choose. Thanks Franbern must look into the audiobooks!
Only problem out 2 year old granddaughter now knows how to command Alexa to play her favourite music, its February and we are still having Christmas songs ?

Just thought of another use, when I first saw Alexa in use at one of my daughters houses about three years ago. They live in a largish, 3-storey house, and had three teenagers. These would just used to disappear into their rooms doing whatever teenagers do in their rooms. I can remember when I had several of those at home, and me standing at the bottom of the stairs yelling myself hoarse trying to get individual or group attention.

In my daughters house, they have an Alexa in each of those bedrooms, and simply just tell their one in their Dining Room or Living Room to announce to all of them that lunch or dinner, etc is about to be served, or get a message to any of them individually. Also plenty of reminders inthe morning about getting dressed and getting out to school.college.

I use mine for reminders, when cooking something, or if I am going to have a power nap in the afternoon,etc.
