Under my sink….

I have utility room envy Iam64 just what we need for dogs, washing machine and downstairs lavatory.
I have a large walk in cupboard which I grandly refer to as the "Utility room ". I don't hanker after a conservatory or other luxuries just a proper utility room.

*sink not sick. But thought of anyone outside the family looking at it makes me sick, so I guess it is a fairly accurate description!

MawtheMerrier well done you. Under my sick looks very like your ‘before’ photo. I also have multiples of unopened Sainsbury’s own washing up liquid. (I swapped to ecover when I started to eliminate household chemicals and swapping to eco brands). I must donate those to our local refuge.

MawtheMerrier, this is indeed a jolly OP. I have several different cleaners for the tiles in the utility/downstairs shower and toilet. There are two problems, firstly I bought grey tiles half price. Didn’t consider the rough surface would trap dust, ok dirt. Certainly didn’t consider the impact of two dogs who go into the utility after walks, get showered etc and their beds are there. I’ve bought special mops. What it needs is me with a scrubbing brush and bleach.

Oh thank you- I have had a laugh!
My one tip to aid tidying (and also removing to a safer place if you have tiny DGC who like investigating cupboards,) is to keep all the bottles in a plastic crate/box which can be lifted out and put in the garage if you need to.
It has also made the tidying easier, but inevitably I can’t get as much back in again as I initially got out!!
This is the “after” pic - impressed?
I am, that’s me done for today. Waitrose, coffee and a bun now.

Add to that the number of bottles of washing up liquid that are added to the online shopping order to make it up to £40 to avoid the delivery charge! ??

Oh my goodness that looks very much like under my sink I didn't know the shelves under my sink held so many products grin

Definitely not alone, we need new tap washers on the kitchen tap, I’ve delayed it because it means emptying the cupboard
(The stop cock is under there).
Now I’ve got Covid so it’s taking even longer to get sorted, meanwhile the hot tap part of the mixer won’t turn on and the cold tap doesn’t turn off unless you wrench it and the whole tap is leaking into the worktop. Sigh….
But emptying the cupboard fills me with dread, good job there is a strong fastener on the door or it would all tumble out.
And I have no excuse as all the extras should be out in the Garage with all the other stuff that won’t fit into the kitchen cupboards.
It’s strange as I happily sort out all the other cupboards in the house but the under sink cupboard defeats me.

How I agree, Maw!
I once found 4 lots of oven cleaning stuff in the black-hole of a corner cupboard. I will not however describe the state of my oven at the time* I would not want to put anyone off their lunch.
(*except for once in a very blue moon, that’s its normal state.)

My under-sink cupboard is full of similar products to yours, but I rarely use them. The last time I tidied mine I found 14 bottles of Fairy Liquid blush! I had kept buying and shoving them to the back where I couldn't see them.

What tasks do I hate? Anything to do with cleaning! I prefer gardening any day.

MawtheMerrier Tue 22-Mar-22 10:30:32

I have a theory that the more you dislike (and avoid) a particular task, the more products you have to deal with it.

OK so what should I make of 2 unopened bags of dishwasher tabs, 2 bottles of drain cleaner, 2 bottles of Viakal lime scale remover, plus one Cilit Bang, 3 glass/window cleaning products, more multisurface cleaners you can shake a stick at and enough silver Polish to see me out. Not to mention the other products you can see.
Plus, whatever possessed me to think it would be a good idea to tidy out the cupboard under the sink?
What tasks do you hate? Do you like me, buy the product to “compensate” ?
Please reassure me I am not alone in this?
