Light bulb guarantees

I had to buy some bulbs this morning and noticed, as I have before, that many of them offer 3-year, or even 5-year, guarantees.

Now there are some bulbs in our house that have clearly lasted longer, but many go before. But it strikes me that I would need a rather large excel spreadsheet and a filing system for receipts to be able to take advantage of the guarantees.

So I guess the question is – have any of you ever done this?

Not that I’m considering it, life’s too short, but I’m curious.

Yes, must have had a faulty batch of LED bulbs when they were new and expensive. We changed every bulb in the house. Made them change all of them as I wasn’t going to be claiming every few weeks. New batch have worked for 8 years with just one failing last month. Think we saved our money back in just over a year.

I find the average life of an LED bulb is not different to that of the tungsten bulbs we used to use. However the saving in electricity, still makes them winners.

You are very lucky then. As I was reading this it came over very dark and DH went to put the lights on. They tripped again as yet another bulb has blown. We now have two out of the five arms working. This is after they were all replaced. I think we need to get the electrician in! I hope it is just the light fitting or switch and not the whole electrics

We have bulbs upstairs which haven’t been changed in over 30 years, they just go on and on.
Downstairs is another story. We have 4x 6 arm chandelier type lights in hall lounge and dining room and the bulbs in these have to be replaced very frequently. It’s very strange.
