Well, I think it's funny ?

My son was wearing a "vote Conservative" t-shirt and an "I love Boris" baseball cap. He's been spat at, abused, slapped around the head and told he's a brainless twat. God knows what's going to happen to him once he gets out of the house.

It was a joke - not a suggestion! Talk about grumpy old women - some people seem to have their sense of humour removed when they hit the menopause - and some are born without one. I'm a conservative voter and I thought it was quite amusing and would probably have felt the same if it had been about Keir Starmer. But surely no one here would condone it if someone was actually attacked in public for their views.

Thank you, I am still laughing!

What happened to the good old British maxim of "I dont agree with what you say but will defend to the death your right to say it?"

Nowadays if you express an unpopular opinion on a controversial subject some spineless snitch will just report it, rather than having the balls to defend their own point of view.

This quote is attributed to Voltaire but was actually coined by Beatrice Evelyn Hall who thought it was something Voltaire may have said. French rather than British.

Very funny - great punch line. The joke is in the unexpected punch line not the 'victim'. It isn't meant to be real.

I don't find the idea of violence against someone who doesn't share your particular political viewpoint funny but I am not offended either. But I have a perfectly well developed sense of humour and I do object to the idea of being told to "lighten up" just because I don't find one joke funny.

Now if it had been Labour and Kei Starmer i would have laughed like a drain.

Aveline Sun 01-May-22 11:46:48

My sense of humour is very well developed. This 'joke' doesn't particularly offend me what I am irritated at is others implying that anyone who doesn't share their opinion on it are somehow at fault. It is they who should 'lighten up' at others having different opinions from them.

Dickens, bullying, harrassment and intimidation, whether to MPs or the 'man in the street' isn't caused by jokes. It's caused by people who a) get offended at anything they disagree with, b) people who feel empowered by belittling and controlling others, etc. I'd be very surprised if there was more in the days of the 'loud and vulgar' comedians than there is now. This joke is funny unless, of course, you don't have a sense of humour. The last couple of years has been fraught, it's time to lighten up a bit.

I laughed and I may pinch the idea lol

Not finding something funny is not ‘being uptight’.

Susiewakie Sun 01-May-22 08:12:42

We thought it was funny ? People are very uptight! It's obviously not real just a laugh

Aveline Sun 01-May-22 07:36:58

Not upset just not laughing

Jannicans Sun 01-May-22 07:09:05

Hilarious, it's a joke, why would anyone get upset over that.

GreenGran78 Sun 01-May-22 03:21:32

My first thought was, "He's a brave lad, even though he's deluded!"
I laughed out loud at the punchline!
