Has anyone bought a steam iron recently that they would recommend? Mine has started leaking water and marking clothes so time for a change I think!

I have a Tefal Ultraglide which is very good, but the water tank needs refilling quite often.

Try descaling your iron before discarding it. Leaking water and marking clothes is often due to a build up of lime-scale.

I have a Phillips iron, which is good.

Some makers, including Phillips have at long last measured an ironing-board and equipped their new irons with a flex that is long enough for the iron to actually reach the end of the board where you do the most tricky ironing!

Now why did it take them a century from the invention of the electric iron to think of that?

I have this one, which I like.

Now have a Polti steam generator iron that was bought in sale. Ironing board to fit was included. Ideal World I think.
Best iron ever. Large water tank and never a problem with leaking water. Marvellous!

Go to a supermarket and buy the second cheapest!

diygran I had the same one and loved it, but after 10 years the water chamber started to leak, so it had to go.
I’ve got a Russell Hobbs now (£25ish) that has only one heat setting and it’s instant, so no waiting for the steam to generate, if there’s only a couple of items to iron. Given the chance, I’d probably have both as I loved the Polti for a ‘long session’.

I had a Black and Decker iron years ago, and it was brilliant.
Now I'm old and crumpled, I usually buy a cheap Phillips one.

If my Polti lasts 10 years I'll be delighted. Cost only £89 with board in sale. Not much more than some ordinary irons these days.
