Estate agent's using misleading photographs on RightMove

I was just surfing through RightMove for our village, when I suddenly saw a picture of our house with a price and the statement that it had three bedrooms.

This was news to me. We are not even thinking of selling and anyway our house has 4 bedrooms. When I clicked on the picture, it turned out to be a front for a small development of houses being built elsewhere in the village.

OK, our village is renowned for its superb timber framed Listed buildings dating from the 14th-17th centuries. and our house is one of them and more modern houses are often sold with pictures of the village housescape, but this is a specific photograph of our house and is being used to lure potential buyers on the agents site, thinking it is our house that is for sale.

I am surprised how uncomfortable this is making me feel.

I might add these new houses are no where near our house.

Think I’d be having a word with the agent M0nica. Seems an odd and misleading thing to do. If nothing else it would be good to hear their justification.

I’d be speaking to the agent as well. That’s not acceptable

Surely it’s a breach of patent law? Using a photo of your property without permission and passing it off as something else. Maybe check with a solicitor?

I would be livid!!

I would perhaps contact Trading Standards?
Misleading I feel.

Yes, wrong on all fronts. I would also be livid with a picture of my house being used to sell another house. Contact the estate agents and ask for it to be removed immediately. They have no right.

Gosh that’s such bad practice and lazy advertising too! Definitely put in a complaint and ask for it to be removed with immediate effect.

I have been travelling and settling in on holiday for the last few days, but tomorrow I intend to contact the estate agent and complain about the photo on Rightmove.

EA often use outside photos and descriptions that are not correct. Every time a flat in my block goes on the market, I have to send a letter (as Secretary of the Management Cttee) to them telling them that their description is misleading and inaccurate. This is because they see our small visitors car park at the rear of the building and ALWAYS put that there is extra parking (as well as the garage that goes with each flat). In the past we have had people purchasing a flat thinking they could keep their second car in there - bt this is not allowed.

Often, for some reason they list our flats as one bathroom, when ALL have two (an en-suite and a separate bathroom).

Always respond very quickly once they get my letter.

If I was you I would write to them enclosing an invoice for payment for using your house in their photos. Make that quite a high amount.

Very odd. I have just gone on to RightMove and the every single advert for this particular development has been withdrawn and then a new one posted with almost every single generic picture of he village removed. Except, again, a photo of a specific old house, somewhat nearer the site - and no longer ours!

Our neighbours put their house on the market last year. Opposite us there is a farm with horses in the field. A photo of the horses was included in the specification so that when people came to view the property they were disappointed to discover that the grounds were not big enough to accommodate a couple of horses !
