Miele fridge collecting water underneath a glass shelf.

This is happening to my sons fridge freezer too so I’d be interested to know if anyone has any ideas.

Check that the fridge is level,width and depth.

Pull the fridge out, look behind it at something called the evaporation shelf, it’s where the water from the drainage hole drains to and then evaporates from the heat of the motor.
When I looked at mine, it was clogged with mould/ algae and once I cleared it all away the fridge worked with water draining through the hole.

In my fridge there is a drainage hole on the back wall, it’s just above the glass shelf. This can get blocked….with very unpleasant gunge. I found an cotton bud could clear the opening and could get a little way down. Saves having to pull the whole fridge out.

Than you Midgey and LucyLocket. Tomorrow I will be attempting to investigate the drainage hole as best as I can. I hope I don’t have to get the fridge/freezer out as it is very tall and difficult to move. Your answers may well help to solve the problem. Timetogo thank you. I use a meat skewer to unblock the drain hole. It goes deeper than a cotton bud.

be careful of damaging it with anything metal.
as to the setting, do you not have a fridge thermometer, that is the best way to adjust the setting.
the recommended range is marked on a fridge thermometer, so you can adjust the setting to bring it in line.
until it improves, could you put some absorbent cloth or material in the compartment, above the veg, to reduce their getting damp.

I used a pipe cleaner to clean the hole in my fridge!

You need to clean the drainage hole. I have a tall miele fridge and needed to move it a little while ago, empty and just pull away from the wall. Then you can check the drainage/condensers behind. It should have two spacers near the top which will give you that important gap behind the fridge. My fridge is set on 5

Did that as dh stood holding this really heavy fridge freezer. It was covered in dust so got going as fast as possible. It certainly needed doing. Did our best to ensure drainage hole was clear by pushing wire down it and a long way down brought out some gunge. However, there is till water under the glass shelf. I am now wondering about turning the fridge up to 5. My instruction book said put it on at 4 but another manual that appeared on Google said 5. Just wondering if the icy streaks showing are the result of it being too cold. The contents seem fine so ?.

There is a small hole at the back, the condensate goes through this hole into a small pan that sits of top of the warm compressor, which evaporates the water. Your fridge is working overtime at 4, so is likely producing more condensate than it can evaporate. 5 degrees will allow your fridge to work much more efficiently and will cost less to run too

I have the same problem. I found that turning the temperature down made it freeze, which didn't help my salad veg. I just put a towel down and replace it regularly.

Exactly what has happened to my fridge until yesterday when my son used a long slightly flexible wire to do a Dynorod job on the drain hole which is just below the class shelf. It has worked so far I guess food debris got into the drainage pipe.

Aactually he used a giant paper clip straightened out.

karmalady I switched the temperature from 4 to 5. Now no water under the glass shelf.Amazing spent so much time wiping water away and drying vegetables. Thank you again.
