A good solution of white vinegar and a hot wash cleans a washing machine very well.

Dr. Beckmans is very good.
Available in wilkos, supermarket etc.

That’s what I do when mine smells abit ‘off’. I’m not sure what’s in it, but it leaves the machine fresh smelling and clean and shiny inside, and round all the seals which can trap bits.

I had this problem with my last washing machine, I read up about what causes it before I got the new one earlier this year. It’s a combination of using liquid rather than powder, using conditioner, washing at low temperatures which doesn’t kill bacteria, and using the drawer which flushes the liquid or powder into the machine with cold water, and not using a cleaner/descales periodically. I now use just powder, and put it straight into the machine with the clothes. I’ve had no problem with smells at all since.

Try cleaning the rubber seal around the door - it’s amazing how dirty and scummy it can get. I do this once a month and run a very hot wash every couple of months using the Dettol machine cleaner. I also keep the door slightly ajar when not in use.

Do an empty hot wash (90 deg if poss) with just a cupful of soda crystals in the drum. If you usually use gel pods and/or fabric conditioner, your machine has very likely been gunged up.

I had to do this twice before all the dirty foam disappeared, and now just use powder and soda crystals, no conditioner.

I always put a teaspoon of soda crystals in a wash to soften the water. I always take out the detergent drawer and leave the machine door open. Make sure the rubber around the inner drum is clean and the inner glass of the door. It seems to help.

Dr Beckmans do a cleaner which is good. You can get it in home bargains by the laundry detergents

My machine has a cleaning cycle which triggers after 40 washes which I always run. And although it uses a 60 cycle it doesn’t really clean the machine thoroughly. I use a bottle of liquid from supermarket which does seem to clean more effectively and smells nice.
I use Persil but I might try Daz too.
Other things that might have a bearing is the effectiveness of the water run off and the water hardness.

I found this to be brilliant.
Hg Service Engineer For Washing Machines & Dishwashers

I'm not sure if the supermarkets stock it but can be purchased on Amazon. There's enough for three uses.
I always find HG products are the best.

Prentice

Lucca I wonder if it is connected to washing liquid or gels?
I use Daz powder and my machine always has a fresh scent.
Try putting the programme on for a very hot wash with nothing inside the drum?

I’ll try the v hot cycle thanks

Hithere

Why ? What can I do about it. DS when over from Oz cleared the filter thing but intermittently smell returns.
