Coverless duvets

Ikea still sells thin easily washed single duvets for £4 each

after reading above, bought and have just washed the 10 tog double duvet. I had a job getting it into the machine and as it is a washer/drier, dried it after the wash (30 degree - quick wash).

It now looks like a rag, More creases than the back of my hand. Help. What do I do to make it look nice again

Friday on the south coast in the machine went coverless 4 tog, bottom sheet, 2 pillowcases, a nightie, 4 pairs of knickers and out on the line at 10 am
I took them in all dry at 2.30 as there had been a good breeze
Back on the bed by 10.30 pm

I’ve bought coverless duvets for when my GC stay. I find them a boon. I don’t have to pay for and then change the covers and the coverless duvet doesn’t need tumble drying, I just drape it over the banister and it’s dry the same day. I wash them with the pillow cases and sheets.

I agree Esspee - it seems illogical to me too! Just another fashion, perhaps, that feeds the consumer-society we've become

We use 4.5 tog duvets and they get washed about four times a year, usually when I know I can get them dry the same day.
Duvet covers are washed weekly with the pillowslips and bottom sheet plus other whites.
By using a so called coverless duvet I would have to wash and dry that bulky item every week. So one extra load weekly and the wear and tear surely means it wouldn’t last for long.
I don’t see the logic.

Northern lass I started doing that too, and after a while I knew it was when the laundry basket was full. It’s a good way to save on expenses.
My only exception is the dog’s bedding. Mattress and 3 dog blankets weighs less than 7kg but the bulk, when it filled up with water, stopped the machine working.

When we got our new washing machine a few years ago (7kg full load), I started weighing my wash loads - and waiting until a full load was reached. It saves energy and detergent, which I feel is particularly important given the state of the world!

Northernlass. I see what you mean, but I don’t usually put much else in with bed linen anyway, maybe a nightie, few pairs of knickers etc. They would fit as well, honestly the coverless quilt is so lightweight and soft it squashed in easily with the rest of the stuff

Therefore you won't be able to get much more than the duvet in a washing m/c. If you were washing ordinary bedding ie a duvet cover, bottom sheet, pillow cases you'd be able to wash other things at the same time.

Northen Lass, in answer to you question I use only the thinnest single duvets. One of the above is an entire machine load, except for pair of knickers of similar small item.

I have the sort of washing machine that weighs each dry load. My attitude is that the very thin coverless duvet is like a sort of very warm sheet. I use a cosy blanket on top when the nights are cooler.

To be clear though, I don’t have a coverless 10 tog one so can’t comment on that
On the south coast in a modern terraced house, no heating on yet and the 4.5 tog is still warm enough
Soon it will the ceremony of unpacking the 10 tog duvet and the covers. Then I know it is really winter!

I can get my 4.5 tog double coverless , bottom sheet and 4 pillowcases in my fairly standard sized machine

I can't see how they're going to be all-round eco friendly if you can't wash anything else with them. And we're supposed to be saving energy as much as possible.

I can only fit one in-it’s a king size summer weight and I put two pillow cases in with it.

I’ve had a John Lewis one for about 3 years. It’s miraculous! No more struggling to get a duvet cover on. It’s soft and snuggles around me. I wash it about fortnightly, ok as I don’t sweat. It fits in my normal washing machine at 30 degrees and dries very fast as it’s very light.
I can’t understand why everyone doesn’t have them.

Please will someone let us know how many of these duvets can be washed at any one time?
I can't see how they're going to be all-round eco friendly if you can't wash anything else with them. And we're supposed to be saving energy as much as possible.

I am craving two singles, I am so fed up of disturbed nights fighting over our king sized duvet. It would suit me so well, he would miss me too much, what can I say and yes it’s just duvets not beds !

I don’t like the idea of these, and must take a lot of drying ?
So not very practical imo and how long does it take to change the cover .. 5 minutes

They don't take long to dry, at least they don't on the washing line. It takes me a lot longer than 5 minutes to change a cover, I have arthritic fingers and it's quite difficult. They do have their uses.

We've got a super king 4.5 tog Night Owl and we both love it. It goes in the washer every week, dries in no time on the line or in under an hour in the drier on the rare occasions we've resorted to it this year. I was going to buy 2 of the heavier weight singles for winter but we've had a quilted throw on top of the quilt a couple of weeks ago when it was a bit chilly & I think that'll be fine. I absolutely love not having to wrestle with a super king quilt & duvet cover- I know all the so-called easy ways of dealing with them bit it's still quite a faff. The Night Owl feels lovely and it's very snuggly, I'd certainly recommend it.

I use a flat sheet with my duvet, so the cover rarely gets changed!!

Singles or small doubles are fine for the washing machine. But would never risk ruining my expensive machine with a KS or SKS one!

I meant that the safety rules have changed for babies bedding now and they wear sleeping bag duvet things instead of loose sheets, blankets, quilts etc

I have a few singles from when we lived in the Far East, only use them on the sofa or for guests. Wash really well in my washing machine
