You really need to do your sums regarding pay back and the depreciation of an electric car.
There are lot of comments about the poor performance of EVs in cold weather and their slow charge rates, on the internet.

Solar panels are a good idea if you are staying in the house for say 10yrs, ask about returning battery power to the grid. Solar panels very unlikely to contribute to car charging - it would take all week

Someone told me earlier this year that if you are a short distance city driver, hybrid works best at the moment… recharging itself as you drive and costing next to nothing to run. They said you fill up for long journeys.
My niece has an electric car and has to plan top up stops on the motorway .

On the other hand converting to electric cars would be the compassionate way to go for future generations, severe asthmatics etc . That doesn’t feature in a cash balance calculation but may be worth thinking about?

When the sun doesn’t shine like in the winter you won’t earn much from solar panels. Electric cars also cost at least £30,000 to buy and there are new laws regarding charging units if you install your own. If you were to keep the car for the next 8 years or more you’d probably be ok. At the moment you don’t pay Road tax on electric or hybrid but there is talk that could all change the more electric cars there are as a means of government income through taxation.

I have solar panels but not PV. I was given the opportunity this year to upgrade to PV at a good price but I worked out long term I would not get my money back, especially as I am now 79.
I am so pleased I had my present panels fitted in 2009 for a song because I have hot water most of but not every month of the year. I live on my own so I am very careful with usage.
