At domestic science classes, when I was a teenager, we were taught to put a spoonful of salt and one of vinegar in glass vases and leave them standing until the following day, where we scrubbed them with a bottle brush, emptied out the salt and vinegar and washed them in warm water with washing up liquid, again employing the bottle brush, then rinsed them well ,
Narrow vases were left to air dry, the others were dried carefully with a tea towel.
