Cleaning flower vases

At domestic science classes, when I was a teenager, we were taught to put a spoonful of salt and one of vinegar in glass vases and leave them standing until the following day, where we scrubbed them with a bottle brush, emptied out the salt and vinegar and washed them in warm water with washing up liquid, again employing the bottle brush, then rinsed them well ,

Narrow vases were left to air dry, the others were dried carefully with a tea towel.

and never in dishwasher either!

Please do not use bleaching agents on lead crystal vases, I dulls them.

Putting a small amount of bleach in the water the flowers stand in, helps prevent heavy staining in the first place.

I use those beads as well. Had them for years.

Some of mine would be wrecked in the dishwasher. If they’re looking limescaley, a good soak with Viakal in the water, followed by a good but gentle going over with one of those brushes used for babies’ bottles..

I was advised to buy denture tablets and they cleaned my vases by soaking overnight. Don't know what they do to teeth though.

I use rice and soapy water as well and sometimes a baby bottle brush. The Beads are reserved for Mr Y decanter off territory.

A tablespoon of rice swilled around in soapy water is effective.

I use the beads above (also excellent for decanters) with hot soapy water.

I squirt the inside with spray bleach.

Either use the beads as shown by nannagarra or soak and bottle brush. Depends on the shape and size of the vase.

I put vinegar and water in mine, leave it to soak overnight and it using a bottle brush.

I have even used some pea gravel from my garden if nothing to hand. Put a handful of gravel in the vase , half fill it with soapy warm water and give the vase a shake (or circular movement). The movement of the gravel helps clean the vase. When finished, tip out the water and gravel back outside.

I leave mine to soak in vanish then rinse out with water with a small splash of bleach (presumably vinegar would work as well)

For years I have used the product shown with a small amount of water. Shaken vigorously in the cling-filmed vase, they do an excellent job. The beads should be rinsed in a sieve then left to air dry for future use.
I have read that crushed egg shells work effectively but I haven’t employed this method.

I must admit I put my glass vases in the dishwasher. If you dont have one, or vases too delicate then I would try leaving them to soak in white vinegar overnight before washing up normally.
