Replacing conservatory roof

We moved into the property in October, the conservatory we knew would need work, but are hoping to just replace the roof, it’s half brick wall with a plastic unit on top but a plastic roof, not glass.

It’s so cold in the winter, and really hot on a warm spring day !.

I’m thinking about just switching the roof to a solid plastic roof tile , I’ve seen a lot of people doing that at the moment and the windows/doors are fine

So the question is, has anyone else done this, does it make the room very dark, could add roof lights ?, does it help insulate in the winter and keep cooler in the summer. Or should I just cut my loses and replace the whole structure

We had ours done by this company

I can’t praise them enough.
We never noticed the lack of light. We have set in spotlights in the roof. We put central heating in at the same time.

We replaced our large lean-to conservatory roof two years ago, with flat white insulated thermal panels to the exterior and a ThermoSave cladded ceiling to the interior. Not sure if this is what you are thinking of, we had a poly carbonate roof previously.

Certainly not dark as the ceiling is white, much cooler in the summer, but too cool to sit in the depth of winter.

It looks smart and we are pleased with it. We had a local firm who specialise in this type of job, they also replaced some of the double glazed window units that had misted up.

Guaranteed for 10 years (the roof) even if the firm goes out of business, which I would doubt as they are always in demand.

A friend bought a house with a clear plastic roofed conservatory. She had it replaced with a fully insulated roof and it has gone from being almost unuseable - too hot in summer, too cold in winter, to being useable all year round.

We often sit out there when we visit.

We were quoted £30,000 to replace our large conservatory roof. Much too expensive for us at the time. Also we loved the open aspect and watching the sky, birds and trees etc. We have had an air source heater enstalled So warm in the winter and can be reversed to cooling in the summer. Absolutely brilliant. I would recommend
