Conservatory Roof Replacement

We had a solid roof fitted on ours about five years or six years ago. Best money we ever spent. The insulation is superb and it is definitely cooler and more bearable in summer, and warmer in the winter although we need a secondary heating source when we use it as we can’t have central heating in there. It’s has a lovely vaulted ceilings with spot lights fitted. It’s a lovely space that people gravitate to. When we had it fitted, people would knock on our door and ask about it.

Had the tiled roof done, really pleased with the result stays much warmer and we also had one velux window fitted.
Hopefully it will be cooler in summer. On the plus side no noise if it rains and ceilings been plastered and inset lights put in.
We now have an extra sitting room all year round, cost under £7,000.00. Dining room doesn't appear to be any darker and we can open the inner doors if we have family round makes a lovely big space.
Took 2 days for roof, electrician came 3rd day and plasterer 4th day. Even sent a decorator when plaster had fully dried (10 days after) to emulsion the ceiling.
Had 2 of our neighbours round who have now decided to have theirs done.

melp1, I should think it depends upon many factors - including which way it faces, whether there are other windows in the dining room - even the height of the roof.

Blue glass should (in theory) cut down glare and overheating but won't insulate. and there's still a lot of heat exchange through the windows.

You could cover the roof temporarily - with cardboard maybe - to see how a solid roof would change light levels. Have you considered blocking summer heat with more wall space and less windows?

We are pleased with our 'warm roof' , fitted 4 years ago. It has given us a much more useable space in all but the hottest/ coldest temps, seems very quiet when it rains now!

We had blue glass fitted in our last conservatory, I don't think it made the slightest difference to the cold in winter.
When we moved into our bungalow we had a sunroom built, we have a solid insulated self clean roof with 2 non opening roof windows. It's lovely all year.

Our conservatory is over 20 years old, at the moment replacing all upvc and having solid tile roof with 1 glass panel each side this has a coating so will stay clean on the outside. The insulation is 6 inch thick with plasterboard. It has just been plastered and I’m waiting an electrician to put in 6 spotlights with a dimmer switch.

Our conservatory is the length of our home and only about 16' in width. Not darkening inside our home. We have slate tiles, quite helpful with weather changes - we use the space all year.
