Kitchen Mat.

After reading all the comments, yes, am probably not bothering with any sort of mat.

DH says he can’t understand why I wanted one anyhow.

As you have cushionfloor no need of a mat to help your legs. ANyway, how long do any of us these days actuallys tand at the kitchen sink? Great things with modern kitchen flooring is the ease of cleaning. Use a Vileda mop, noneed of a mat.

The colours may not be right though.

I liked the look of the Chindi rugs, but was put off as in the reviews, someone said they spilt water on it, the colours ‘bled’, and spoilt it.

Strange as I thought they could be washed, but also read they recommended dry cleaning which is not very practical. (This was on a different site).

I appreciate all the comments and will look all the suggestions up.

I also feel a bit ‘old fashioned’ as several of you seem surprised at the thought of a mat in front of the sink, but I did ask for your views, and will take them on board.

My kitchen has hard tiles, which I found made my feet ache when standing for any length of time baking. The mat has made a huge difference.

Oh but I do have bath mats in the bathroom/shower

Kim19 - yes , I agree. I have no rugs in the house, not even one in front of my fireplace (not used now anyway)

I can’t imagine having one. I mop the floor and it’s clean. I have Turtle Mats and Hug Rugs inside the external doors and they wash well but having one in front of the sink wouldn’t feel very hygienic to me. It would always be in the washing. Also dare I say very old fashioned.

Would be just another potential trip hazard for me.

I prefer the cushioning effect of my indoor shoes instead.

Probably because my mum always had one in front of her sink,
and she reckoned it was better for your legs to stand on a mat on a cold floor in winter.

I realise of course times have changed, we no longer stand for ages chained to the sink, but a colourful mat would finish off the decor.

My old one was from IKEA, just a cotton one, and washed so often the colours have faded away.

Just wondering why? It's just one more thing to collect dirt and need cleaning!

Hug Rugs are similar to Turtle Mats, and are made in the U.K. (in Yorkshire). Lots of designs/colours.
I have a nice one inside the back door.

I have a cotton 'chindi' rag rug in front of my sink...I don't find that it slips at all and it's very easy to wash.

I've had several rubber backed one's but they never seem to wash well and/or the rubber backing comes away.

There is a big choice of this sort of thing on Ebay. I have a similar one, which is non-slip and machine washable.

Have a look at Turtle mats (turtlemat.co.uk). They're quite expensive but hard wearing, easy to wash in the washing machine, slim and rubber backed so they don't slip and slide and they're available in a range of designs and colours.
