Yes , Primrose53 ! We were all stumped , the neighbour called out the company who'd sold her the machine . A nice patient man told her that the childlock was on ! No charge !
Phew ! Thanks to everyone for their ideas . x

My hints are from someone in the trade!

Like a PC, take plug out, wait thirty seconds and try again?

My go to for everything 😄

OP, is there an error code showing.

Well it worked for me yesterday, when my PC packed up!

I had forgotten the childlock thing. That happened to me, I hadn't realised that there was a release switch located next to the drain!

1. Check that the childlock has not been activated.

2. Cancel the programme out and restart.

It usually works wink

You need to discharge the cable, so I'm told!

(On some machines the start button can be pressed for three seconds to reset it, sometimes says this by the button)

I’ve found this on YouTube. It mentions pressing and holding the Start and Time buttons at the same time to reset. It might be worth a try if you haven’t already tiredoldwoman

I can’t offer any tech help but I’d be tempted throw in a batch of towels and press start in the hope it’ll do the wash cycle and clear the glitch at the same time.

Yes, I'd do the same. Assume you can turn the heat down to a reasonable level and maybe press a short wash button? If that doesn't clear it she needs a repair man. Programmers tend to be expensive.

Any of these help?

www.aeg.co.uk/support/user-manuals/

Child lock, (which is to prevent them playing with the control panel)? Or try a factory reset?

Neighbour 's machine seems to be stuck on a cotton wash with 2:59 on the clock . No washing in machine . I went round to help out but she has no instruction book and no way of getting the serial number to download instructions online . I tried a reset trick of switching off , opening and closing the door quickly but when I switched it back on it jumped back to cotton and clock was the same ! any AEG wizards out there ?
