Living in Filey

I’d say before you make a firm decision, try to set Filey firmly aside. Then both of you make a wish list of what you’d want/need in terms of a home and also the locality. Then compare lists and combine them into one list. Come back to look at Filey, see how it compares and go from there. You’ll never find everything that you want but you do need to have enough of it so that the move will be a happy one. That strategy worked for us, not Filey btw but another small town in the north. Good luck with it all

Good advise, thank you. I love where we live at the moment (in the North as well). A quiet village, but a large detached house, which scares me a bit regarding the upkeep and maintenance. We would not be able to afford a bungalow here, hence looking further afield. Will start my +/- list.

We don't live there but we had our first holiday there this year. We absolutely loved it. It's beautiful. The only slight downside were the steep hills but it was worth it.

We have been for a family holiday and a couple of weekends there and enjoyed it. I worked with a couple who have now retired there and they love it.

Filey is lovely. It has bus and train connections, and a Tesco so shopping wouldn't be a problem. You're close enough to other towns with more shops and can easily get to Hull or York if you want go anywhere bigger.

Can't beat Filey!

Why did I think it was in Cornwall?
It looks nice from pictures.

I spent my childhood here most weekends, so always felt like home. I went on to bring my own children here too. We made a move here in 2019, thank goodness or covid might have scuppered our decision. The quality of life here is wonderful, especially if your pleasures are fresh air and wildlife. A friendly town busy busy in summer but blissfully quiet in winter, lots of groups and clubs if that’s what you enjoy. The downside for some is an hour’s drive to York to join motorways. Shopping can be more difficult but all essentials in Filey and the Internet is your friend. Just beautiful.
