Please show me your wall mounted postboxes

Very true JackyB I live in Germany as well and have to get dressed before I open up my postbox !

My oldest GS was very ill on holiday. The resort was riddled with food poisoning bugs and all the warning reviews had been removed for payments. The solicitor they used seemed surprised that the family didn’t realise that. Took two years for the travel company to pay up. GS is fine now but a baby who was also poisoned has taken years to recover. I used to accept the reviews at face value but I am much more cautious now.

I really don't trust Amazon reviews having bought several pairs of yoga pants .
They had rave reviews and were horrendous .
The seams split .
An unbelievable quantity of colour came out each time I washed them .

So I'd rather have some gransnet recommendations !

Sorry you’ve had a bad experience with your yoga pants. Generally I find Amazon reviews helpful. The ones I wouldn't take much notice of are where a reviewer has received a free item in exchange for a review. In this case the reviews were correct and this is a hearty recommendation from a gransneter!

Our postie would love everyone to have these. He's been bitten three times by dogs when he's had to push mail through tiny letter letter boxes. He says he now won't even put his fingers through if he hears a dog in the house. I like that Brabantia one Spidergran3

That’s awful Hetty58

I’ve delivered a few hundred flyers for a local charity event this week. I missed out a lot of houses as there was no letterbox to be seen. I’ve had bruised knuckles after forcing the leaflets through tight draft excluders, and frayed nerves having snatched my fingers back from snarling dogs.

I just wanted to say that I now just love a wall mounted postbox!

We got ours because an elderly gentleman in our road had a lit firework posted through his letterbox. Earlier that day he'd told some boys to stop cycling around on his drive. Now, I lock the porch door and have a Ring doorbell.

JackyB as you can see from the pictures, the post boxes we are talking about here in the UK are usually quite small, although just big enough for a small parcel. People generally have them because they have had new front doors fitted and don’t want a letterbox in them, or else the letterbox just isn’t wide enough to take a magazine or documents without folding. They are mostly attached to the house wall beside that door and there’s definitely no need to get dressed to open them. Of course, some very old properties might have postboxes in more awkward locations, but generally they’re quite convenient.

Why would you want one? Here in Germany, everyone has to have one as the slit through the door is just not anything. I hate having to go outside to get my post. As it's on the street side, you have to get dressed to go and get it. You even have to remember to go and get it, too. I so envy people in the UK who have their post land on their mat and can just pick it up still wearing their nightie.

We’ve got a Brabantia in an open porch. Postie says it’s the best he uses. Pretty sure it wouldn’t let the rain in, and it’s got a lock. See what the reviews say on Amazon.

I have one of these heavy duty parcel/post boxes - against a wall and bolted/cemented to the ground:

We have one on a north-west facing wall. It hasn't let rain in yet and it was already old when we moved in 17 years ago. Occasionally things left in it too long get slightly damp. It is similar to the picture I've added.

But it isn't used much cos the postman – with our express permission – just opens the door to the mud room and plonks stuff on the fridge.

We have that one.

Thanks Fairislecable , looks good

I’ve seen some Whitewavemark2 that have a place built in underneath for newspapers

Are they large enough to take the daily paper?

I have looked on Amazon, by the way. But wanted to hear from gransnetters that’s why I posted.

We have had our postbox for 30 years and it has never let in rain.

It is very heavy and the flap is not lifted by the wind.

It is very similar to this one: www.castinstyle.co.uk/product.php/4817/black-wall-mounted-post-box?msclkid=6599a857158b1fedfd91cc8cd0c21672

Ours doesn’t let in water, it is under the eaves.

Shelflife

Seems a bit ' harsh ' Theexwife! OP was simply asking for a recommendation. Unfortunately I am not in a position to offer advice.

I didn't mean to be so abrupt, I should have said that you will get better results if you look on Amazon and read the reviews.

I got mine from Screwfix. Yes it does hold a bit of water. But only if the rain is very heavy and windy which blows the flap up. But had it since 2019 as I had a new composite front door and didn't want a letterbox in it.

Our post box is set into the garden wall and was GR and genuine. The people before us had lost the key and had a traditional one cut in the porch door which we had to have recut as the Westerlys made it let in water. The other old one is always dry. Next door has one that you lift a lid and then insert into a slot they say everything is dry but sorry I don't know the make.

Get one with a decent key/lock as this is a weakness on many. You can pay a lot and still get a cheap lock which will let you down

No idea where we got ours. It’s under the porch so no problem with things getting wet but that is an important consideration.
