Cleaning sole plate of iron

Our fairly new iron has developed two dark patches on the sole plate. We've tried usual cleaning products but can't get rid of them and I didn't like to scrub too. hard Any suggestions appreciated.

We have an old fashioned ironmongers and i asked in there and assistant produced a small box of “stuff” specially designed for sole plates. I am sorry i cant remember the manufacturers name.

I warm the iron and lightly use a brillo pad on the sole plate. Wipe off residue and its fine.

Hold a paracetamol tablet in tweezer and rub the affected area works well
