Need to share my achievement

Good Morning Everyone

Just wanted to share something with someone.

After a long divorce I purchased my own property in October & have been busily updating/renovating it whilst working full time ever since. I’m so happy to say I’m having the last couple of carpets fitted today & can now take my foot off the gas lol. At 52 I’ve discovered DIY skills I never thought I had & I cannot believe how proud of myself I am (hence the share). With mental health issues I do find it hard to give myself any credit, but I am really going to try to soak this all up & digest just what I’ve achieved. Sorry if this post is a little different but I feel like shouting from the rooftops lol x

Wow, well done you, from someone who finds the whole idea of house maintenance completely overwhelming ☹

Well done you! Be proud of yourself for your achievements. You’re a wonderful example of what hard work and perseverance is all about. As a reward buy yourself a new DIY tool….or a special plant or bush for your garden…..every time you use it or look at it you should say to yourself ‘Well Done Me’ …..I deserve it!

I’m thinking of a rhododendron I think this is a great idea thankyou xx

Not quite the same, and I am much older than you, but about 20 years ago my job required me to buy a small flat to avoid a very long commute to work and it needed quite a refurb. I knew it would only be for a few years so I didn't want to spend a fortune on it. My daughters bought me DIY tools for Christmas and I learnt new skills. I saved a fortune on building furniture from kits, tiling a bathroom, even doing all the manual work for a full re-wire after learning a great deal about electrical circuits. I was really proud of myself - and still am!!

Enjoy your new home for many years, and feel proud of yourself.

Lovely happy news. Your excitement shines through. Enjoy every minute, you have earned it! 💐

You should be shouting and dancing from the rooftops. Just think back on how you felt before you bought the house and started the renovations, and how you feel when you look around at what you have achieved. No holding you back now.

Well done you. Good luck in your new home.

Congratulations ad well done, how I wish I could something like that. I have never tried proper DIY, did a bit of emulsion painting and hated it, actually found it so boring, butI have never had the time properly before and now Ido not have the ability as my back is too painful. Neither of my parent could do DIY but the rest of the family can do everything themselves. You are entitled to be very, very proud indeed, I certainly would be shouting from the roof top too. Well done

Well done on Your achievement …hope it has helped you to come to terms with things .
At 50 split up with Husband and bought a flat outright …It was the first time I had lived alone and one of the best things ever did 😃

tinad42 Thu 14-Mar-24 18:39:48

Such a great achievement! Well done. It always feels far more special, when you complete a task yourself. 🤩

Well done you ! you can't beat buying your own place. I bought my first flat nearly 40 years ago and I can still remember how great it felt to have somewhere I could really call my own.
You've got through a massive amount of work; divorce, house purchase; home improvements. That would be amazing under any circumstances but as you say you have mental health issues that is an extra gold star.
👏👏👏👏👏👏

A woman reaches her PRIME in her 50’s!! Everything comes together - you’ve found yourself, gained wisdom, you’ve worked hard, you will achieve more and start to enjoy your independence - and no one can take it away from you.

Congratulations! So happy for you. Now you’ll be able to help others going through similar journeys.

It just gets better with each decade going forward. Live it up!

ceejayjay - well done. You should be very proud of yourself. I was roughly your age when I divorced, but spent my time wallowing in self-pity. Divorce settlement took a couple of years of legal wrangling, as you know. But I didn’t have the skill or knowledge to do any d.i.y. - so had builders in to do the hard work. My s.i.law was in the building business, so he got the right people in etc etc. Well settled now in my very own home.
All the best for a wonderful life ahead flowers

nadateturbe Thu 14-Mar-24 16:48:25

Well done, you've every right to feel very proud of yourself!
