AO have a "store" on ebay, where you can buy graded white goods. I bought my little tumble dryer from them, as it may not have been in it's original packing. (It was, actually)
They currently have half a dozen washing machines at £250 or cheaper, including Bosch and Indesit, and even more under £300.
DD and I have bought appliances from them in the last year. She bought a Samsung washing machine and I bought a Samsung dishwasher at considerably reduced prices.
I always buy a basic model - I only ever use a couple of programmes anyway. The one I have now is from John Lewis, it's well over 10 years old and to date has never gone wrong. But now I've said it ......... !
I have a mid-range Hoover model that, touch wood, has been running like clockwork for ten years - so was lucky this time. Still, I often soak washing overnight, then just run it through the rinses with an EcoEgg.
I have the Hoover H wash, and am very happy with it. I shopped and shopped around, and ended up paying less than £300 for it I think it's a smart machine and can be used with an app, but I don't do any of that.
