Energy companies - a Scam?

I have just received an email from E.ON stating that I owe them money on my account and it will be taken from my bank account by direct debit.
I’m suspicious because
a) I closed my account with them in 2022
b) They sent me a refund at that time for over payment

Funnily enough at about the same time last year I received an email from Scottish Gas saying I owed them £0.01, however this is a larger amount.
Anyone else received similar emails from Energy companies?
