Why do people boast about their cleanliness?

Oh I used to love Katherine Whitehorns column. I used to save them and often find one in an old book. Not having read the links yet ( but I will) did she mention the wool woozies that live under the bed? I know my son was once horrified that I described myself as a slut . I always referred to my house as being like Miss Havishams; not sure if that was one of her articles but it would have been from The Observer as that was the only newspaper I read.

Don’t we all scrub through anyway. If anyone moaned about my nice neighbours I would just answer, I found them lovely people and very clean.

Can’t be bothered with people who brag, however humbly- ‘humble bragging’ seems to be a thing at the moment. And about cleaning, of all things! Such a boring, if necessary, topic to discuss, let alone show off about!

Have moved many, many times and even when the new place looks clean I have always cleaned it first myself before moving in, wouldn't dream of putting anything away without making sure all cupboards, drawers etc were clean. After that it's my dust so that's OK. When moving out I do it all again as thoroughly as possible. In fact my homes are at their cleanest when I first move in and again when I move out.

Our current home was beautifully clean when we moved in, it was a probate sale and the son of the previous owner had cleaned it, painted everything white and put in a cheap cord carpet which was fine until we had our renovation done a year later.
The only exception was the huge pink jacuzzi corner bath which was covered in limescale and took up most of the room.
When we move we always get the removers in early so that we can give the house a good going-over before we leave, but I imagine that our buyers will still have a good moan as most seem to do.

Hmmmm, i do wonder if the tenants are simply 'playing the game', Recently a couple of friends had threats of their deposits/bond withheld due to 'cleaning required'. One case went to arbitration where the landlord was criticised for their behaviour and the 2nd, my friend said she would go to arbitration and the landlord backed down. In both cases the letting agencies had said that there was no problem with the properties ie they were clean, but the landlords pushed.

Back in our military days, ever speck of dust, scratch, chip was recorded as we moved as we knew we would be charged as we left - and our hearts sank if new carpets had just been fitted!.

There are excellent tenants & landlords, but there are also terrible tenants and awful landlords. It seems to be a lottery these days as to which you get.

I have never heard of this kind of thing, but perhaps it is because I don't live in the UK.

Here most people would wash the insides of fixed cupboards, fridge, cooker etc. and bathroom and empty a house or flat completely of furniture and r ubbish before leaving it. No-one would paint, as we all expect the new owners to do that.

However clean the place was, I have never started unpacking before I had washed the insides of the fiitted cupboards even although I was sure they were clean.

Going off at a slight tangent here but can anyone explain to me why every other advert on tv these days seems to be for things that make your house or your washing smell fresh and clean because washing’ isn't enough’. It seems I need to spray everything with smelly stuff or plug in air fresheners everywhere. I know that clothes sometimes get a frousty smell if they aren’t aired properly but apart from that I’ve never stood next to someone and thought they didn’t smell fragrant enough. And clean sheets are good enough for me, they don’t need to smell of some kind of perfume. Or maybe, as the advert tells me, I have become ‘nose blind’?

Think they want to make us 'wallet blind'

It's that nice young woman with two small children advertising washing gels who annoys me. They all wear white, including the toddler splodging paint everywhere.
Any sensible mother would buy him a painting coverall or even find an old shirt!
And her proper nappies are always soft and snow-white even when dried indoors.

Apart from that she seems lovely.

She seems like a nice girl, though.

I hate all the manufactured chemical smells found in so many products. I was once stopped in a supermarket where they were testing the scent of a fabric softener. They asked if I would choose my favourite. I told them not to bother I'd find them all awful.

I'm very allergic to artificial scents - most of these products trigger an asthma attack for me..! Friends now remember to switch off their plug-in air fresheners etc when I visit, and I can only use unscented washing products. It's getting worse and worse, as every manufacturer seems to think that strong floral scents are good - not when you immediately start wheezing they're not..!!! 😱

I have a rental property, my tenants who have been there at least eight years, keep the place utterly immaculate, far better than I keep my own home😳 hope they never leave😀

I find it so amusing that so many women are so obsessed with braging about how clean their home is ! & also how wonderful their food is ! They usually will put down others as not as good as they are ! Seriously ? I find them to be pathetic ! It is so sad that they have this need to toot their own horn & critisize & judge others. Ladies, everything in life does not need to be a competition. Take a breath. You're ok. You don't have to convince us by pointing out your super cleanliness !

I wouldn't dream of boasting of my cleanliness. I would be anxious lest my mother ( she of the very high standards) would send a thunderbolt from heaven to punish me.

Amuse away style, dont think many on here are 'boasting ',however if you move out of a property surely it is good form to leave it clean and likewise entirely natural to get happy with the mop/cloths when you move in. As for boasting about cooking, I for one have enjoyed some lovely recipes that other posters have kindly shared and long may they do so
