never-ending renovation

Help, my neighbour upstairs (who hasn't moved in yet) has had a big renovation going on upstairs for about 6 months. I feel they don't care I am living through this noise and mess, there seems to be something new getting ripped out or put in every week, constant banging and drilling. I work from home, and have no office options nearby. I want to move as I now feel quite depressed about my life here, the noise has really got me down. There's been other things (I don't want to post publicly, but basically if something they are doing affects my flat directly, and needs done urgently, they ignore my texts until late at night and then claim to do something about it, but don't and they never tell me if it's sorted or not, some quite tricky problems. I live alone but would like to have family able to visit/stay, this seems impossible at the moment. I feel so disregarded in the situation. Anyone else been through this alone?

Have you spoken to the landlord? They are probably in breach of their lease by causing an unreasonable degree of nuisance and interference to your enjoyment of your property.

My daughter has the same issue- their neighbours have been constantly renovating for about five years since they first moved in.

The most annoying thing is the often go away when the work is going on so don't get the inconvenience.

The house is their own so not much they can do except have renovations of their own!

Is there anywhere else you can work? I would have a word with your employer to see if they can help with some space for you.

Could you work at your local Library?

Thanks for your replies! It is their own house, bought from my old neighbour who was lovely. It's been never ending each day since they took ownership. I don't mind working through it tbh but have used the leisure centre and library as alternatives. The thing that gets me is the lack of control I have over the situation and it feels somehow like they absolutely don't care what it involves. Seems to be work going on in all the rooms all the time so I can't even avoid it, the radio is on loud and lots of shouting and dropping tools. They really don't care. I try and communicate as a friend said to just keep on at them if a shared issue comes up (they have blocked a drain with the work) but they don't rush to fix it as they don't live there yet, so it's just affecting me. How ppl can be so disregarding of a future neighbour makes me want to sell up.

Headphones may help when you're working, although it's not ideal. I'd be very frustrated with the lack of support with new neighbours and be tempted to speak directly to builders.

If they have been doing it for 6 months already, surely it's nearly done if they aren't living there?

Are you on friendly terms with the builders at all? Do you ever see them come and go?
I'd be tempted to be around at one of these times and ask "how is it going". You may find out more that way.

Surely can't be much longer... ๐Ÿ˜•

You would think it would be nearly done but I suppose it's all to be decorated now, the place still looks like a bomb site to me. There's lots of junk lies outside thr place that's been ripped out, although they used to remove it, now it sits for weeks with all the rubbish left by builders working there too (cans, cigarette butt's etc) seems they've a bit to go yet sad

Where I live the builders aren't allowed to take the rubbish anymore, the responsibility is the homeowner.

If they are leaving on a shared pathway, this isn't allowed as its a health and safety issue so you'd need to contact leaseholder.

At least the decorating won't involve drilling. ๐Ÿคž

I hope it's resolved soon!
