removing blood from white cotton sheets.

My best quality sheets have been stained with blood.

I sprayed initially with vinegar which spread the blood and washed the sheets after which left them just the same.
I then soaked them in bleach washed after this didn't make any difference.
After this I used a product which said whitener with stain removal powder, that didn't work either.
Any ideas.

I’m a quilter and when pricked my finger used my own spit to remove the blood stain. Suggested by my teacher.

The initil approach should have been to soak the sheets in a luke warm solution of bio detergent. As someone has said the stain may be fixed now. However I have before now hung up a staned table cloth and used an artists pain bush to keep brushing the stains with bio solution straight from the bottle. Then after a week washing it in a mixture of bio and ordinary laundry powder.

When we lived abroad sun light did most things so you could try day after nay damping them an then leaving them to dry in full sunlight.

Let us know how you get on.

Has anyone mentioned Shout? I always use it. Some of the blood and other stains may have been in place for days because I find them on clothes and bedding etc that have been put in the laundry basket awaiting my miracles. It has never failed me.

I once scratched a finger getting into a car in my white dem dress (dancing). Several marks from blood were made on the skirt 😱. Fortunately where we were doing the demonstration there was a ladies' loo with good hand dryers so, with the help of one of my team-mates, I rinsed the marks out with cold water and then (mostly) dried the dress under the hand drier. We were dancing outside and it was quite a hot sunny day so I positioned myself in a sunny spot to finish the drying process while we were waiting our turn.

On that occasion salt wasn't required, thank goodness.

blood stained cloth should be steeped in cold water that a good handful of salt has been dissolved in, rinsed then washed on a hot cycle with salt added to the washing powder.

I honestly thought all girls were told this by their mothers when they had their first period!

Yup.

Try ‘Shout’ it is brilliant. It can be tricky to find but they usually sell it in Morrisons and sometimes in Sainsbury’s. For future references paste of bicarbonate of soda and detergent applied for ten minutes and then scrub in cold water. Then spray with Vanish and wash (not too hot though as hot sets the stain. Finally hang on the line on a nice sunny day

Dealing with blood stains can indeed be tricky!
Using cold water with an enzyme-based cleaner or hydrogen peroxide before washing often helps.
Have you tried any of these methods yet?

After all the treatments you have done it could be the iron in the blood that is left
Good old Bar keepers friend attacks iron stains. Might be worth a try damp cloth pat in and leave
Good luck

I believe that blood stains must initially be soaked in cold water - putting straight into hot water will set the stain permanently.

I’d always used salt. Soaked in cold water.

If nothing works could you dye them if you tie dye pink or red it might not be noticeable.

Stain Devils very useful for dealing with specific stains. As is sunshine. Sometime repeated treatment needed.

If you read the thread, the OP has solved the problem

An Oxy active stain remover powder, I use it for all my washing, Had blackcurrant stains on white t-shirt, sponged it with cold water when it happened, put it with other clothes in machine and added scoop of Oxy powder with normal powder, I also add scoop of soda crystals/powder to all washes as it stops scaling etc, washed at 40 degrees, when done put on airer and stain came out with help of daylight, hence the Oxy (Oxygen) name. It works with blood too.

I have to agree, it is probably too late now but wetting the blood stain with milk and letting it soak for a short while prior to washing normally lifts out blood. You don't need pints of it - just enough to drench the area.

My mum always soaked anything with blood on overnight in salty water and I do likewise.

Biotex is fantastic for all stain removals.

Dye them pink ? Suppose not ..but I would !😊

Soak overnight in the bath or large sink with Ariel
Always worked for me. You could then wash at 60 also with Ariel

Even after washing, I have found a good quality hand bar soap works well. Dampen the area with tepid water and rub the soap over the stain, working it in with more tepid water until you see it beginning to loosen. Rinse in tepid water and do it again. When it is nearly all gone, leave the last lot of soap in the fibres and wash as usual. Don't use cheap soap but no need for your Christmas present one - just a good general one.

Try soaking in vanish powder in very hot water overnight

Mojack26 Thu 20-Jun-24 13:57:01

Cover blood with salt and cold water, let it soak then wash in hot wash
