Cleaning skirting boards

Does anyone have a method for cleaning skirting boards that doesn't involve getting down on my hand and knees?

I ca do the dust with the extension on my vacuum cleaner but even that isn't great. Sometimes they need more than just a dust.

Thanks

I love this thread - thank you for starting it PinkCosmos! I have been reporting to DH on the number of posts added to it each day. I am saying this tongue in cheek but these practical queries on GN are welcome relief from the ‘heavier’ items 😊

I am a ‘down on my knees with a damp, soapy cloth’ skirting cleaner but it doesn’t happen very often 😂. Quick brush and suck with the vacuum dusting tool if I happen to be using it.

Promrose63 you’ll be giving some folk ideas smile

This just reminded me of a skirting board story.😉

A lady who turned her large seaside guest house into a kinky guest house was interviewed on radio. She did so because bookings were poor and their home was in danger of being repossessed. She described lots of fetishes clients had and was asked to describe the most unusual.

It was a man who loved cleaning. He used to lick the skirting boards clean whilst stark naked. 🤮. He asked her to hit him with a whip if she felt he was too slow and she did so.

She said they had men queuing up to stay there from all over the country - sales reps, builders, old men, young men, rig workers, gay men, straight men.

Calendargirl,

“My skirting boards are also ‘torus’ style. They were chosen by DH when we had our bungalow ‘done’.

B….y dust catchers! If I had realised…..”

I could have written your post 😊

Fluffy socks work wonders and no bending

keepcalmandcavachon Mon 24-Jun-24 20:31:11

Warm, soapy cloth. I don't kneel to do mine, stiff knees but bendy in the middle.grin

Floor wipes on a Swiffer mop.

You don’t have to kneel down. I can’t.

Keeper1 Mon 24-Jun-24 19:51:35

It’s not the kneeling down it’s the getting up.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 24-Jun-24 19:49:07

What? Blimey. And I’m not houseproud, I loathe housework but know it has to be done.

aggie Mon 24-Jun-24 19:45:57

I have never knowingly cleaned a skirting board. !

I’m amazed that people don’t include skirtings when dusting a room. I have always done that.

annodomini Mon 24-Jun-24 16:26:18

If I dust them regularly with my long-handled duster, I live in hope that they won't get dirty.

Jaxjacky Mon 24-Jun-24 15:02:57

I have been known to give them a ‘dust’ by using my socked foot 🙄

Notagranny44 Mon 24-Jun-24 14:15:08

Most of the time I don't bother, but when the mood takes me I use a damp microfibre cloth held in my "Helping Hand" gripper thing I bought when I had my hips and knee done. It's not perfect but does the job.

Casdon Mon 24-Jun-24 14:12:51

I’ve got an OXO Good Grips Microfibre Duster, it’s got a long handle and it’s very fluffy and pink. I’ve got different heads for it so if I need to wash the boards I wet one of them, and use the same handle. They go in the washing machine, and I also use them for behind the cupboards and high level, they are really good.

teabagwoman Mon 24-Jun-24 13:51:47

I can’t see mine due to sight problems. Every cloud etc. 😋

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 24-Jun-24 13:39:52

I use a long handled Flash disposable duster and when needed wipe with floor wipes from a standing position as I can’t kneel.

PinkCosmos

My skirting boards are also ‘torus’ style. They were chosen by DH when we had our bungalow ‘done’.

They look nice, but would never have agreed to these if I had realised what they were really like.

So I try not to look at them!

farmgran Mon 24-Jun-24 12:56:26

I mop my floors with something like an old fashioned string mop only made of strips of microfibre cloth. The skirting boards get done at the same time as the floor.I think its overdue for a good clean!

I have found quite a few like this on Amazon. They don't look like they would be very successful. Much too fiddly. Sorry for long link

Hopeless with a muddy dog.
Removing contact lenses works for me.

I have a piece of equipment called "my husband" who does those those awkward jobs for me. However he is now finding it more difficult so I may need to update the model. smile

Theexwife Mon 24-Jun-24 12:02:25

Employ a cleaner for one off cleaning to do the things you struggle with.
