Having the bathroom redone and saw an option of one of these toilets. They are not cheap, but look good and would be fantastic for me as I have lichen sclerosis. Ie very sore vagina area.
Just wondering if anyone has one and their thoughts?

Virtually every sit down toilet in Turkey is a bidet toilet, having worked there for 13 years I really miss them. You can by bidet toilets here for under £500 or bidet toilet seats to convert your existing seat for under £200. Unfortuanately I'm in rented accommodation so can't sort mine out.

Sago

My daughter had a house they renovated, she put “Bum Guns” in two of the bathrooms, these are like a shower attachment.

They were fantastic, as they cleaned the loo as well as your bits.

A small hand shower attachment next to the toilet is very common in Greece - very handy :-)

That’s ok - but if you can’t use your hands - it’s impossible to use a towel, wipe, loo roll or whatever.

This is the sort of thing - £2500 plus fitting from Victoria plumbing.

Dont like bidets - prefer to go into the shower, after I use the toilet, or if in a hurry, I use a dampened toilet paper.

No mabon.

Bidet?

There is a company called Independent4Life which sells these, along with other bathroom gadgets for disabled people. Some of these special toilets even have warm air blowers to dry your bottom, for people who can't use their hands.

These (the real Japanese toilets) are a Godsend for those, like my friend, who have almost lost the use of their hands.
They’re state of the art appliances, where all the ‘gubbins’ are hidden behind a panel. Not just a fad/fashion for most - a real, but very expensive necessity for my friend,

Spain has bidets in hotels, always with a separate small towel hanging nearby. I have a cold water hose in my bathroom. The water is never too cold, tho it can be a little chilly in winter. I wouldn't be without it as we don't have enough room for a proper bidet.

Have come across these in Japan and the Far East but never used one, bit wary of them. Don't like bidets either.

they sound fantastic!!!! I never knew there was such a thing till I saw this thread a few minutes ago, years ago I rented a house that had a bidet & that was lovely but I've never used one since. I looked up the cheap amazon option, but couldn't find anything else, what is the better version called & I can google it? I'm hoping to move in the next few years so I can factor that into my house hunting!

I would love one of these! £26? I would expect you dry yourself with a towel, as you’d do after a shower, bath or wash.

Charleygirl5 Tue 13-Aug-24 09:08:29

I have bought one for £26 something and it is coming tomorrow! Ripped packaging- I can live with that. If it works I will buy another for the second loo.

PamelaJ1 Tue 13-Aug-24 09:04:19

Just to clarify- my Sister has the hoses, my friend experienced the squirting loo.
Thank goodness sago
What I have never quite understood is how do you dry yourself? Are there piles of washable cloths by the loo or is the preferred method lots of non eco friendly disposable wipes?

Sago Tue 13-Aug-24 08:35:26

The temperature was set at warm.

What temperature was the water. My sister has them in her bathroom but the hose connection is to the cold tap on her sink.🥶
A friend came across them for the first time in the US. She and her husband thought it would be a good idea to video but they only work (well this one did) when there was weight on the seat. So… she sat down and then leapt up when it started. She was soaked, the bathroom was soaked and so were all the towels when they finished mopping up.
Top tip- keep sitting till the end!

I came across one of these in Japan some years ago, no translation on any of the various buttons, I left well alone!

NotSpaghetti I use a flannel as I wouldn't be able to get my foot in and my balance is awful and would fall. Have you ever watched Crocodile Dundee when Paul Hogan is in New York trying to work out why there are 2 dunnies . And shouts out the window for washing his arse. Always makes me laugh.

NotSpaghetti Mon 12-Aug-24 23:04:02

Bidets are great for washing feet Whiff

Whiff Mon 12-Aug-24 21:20:28

I tried a bidet when I had my son in hospital in 1987. Never again things come out not up . I know things are made better made nowadays but not for me. If my hands get worse I will use water wipes after using toilet paper .

Charleygirl5 Mon 12-Aug-24 21:15:23

Georgesgran thanks, that is what I wanted to know, at least the starting price.

Georgesgran Mon 12-Aug-24 20:27:14

Lots online to look at Charley with prices from £2K to £10K, pre fitting.
My friend had hers installed as part of a bathroom renovation and I don’t want to ask her the cost. I know an electrician had to wire it up, as well as the plumber fitting it and (like a Jacuzzi) there are special chemicals to use to keep the jets clean.

GrannyRose15 Mon 12-Aug-24 19:54:20

My son who has one says they are much better for your bottom than using toilet paper. I love using his when I visit.
