Hive ap - how much do they cost? and what advantage are they?

Having my new combi boiler installed by British Gas tomorrow. Lots of cash.,
Was rather taken aback, when I received an email today telling me to activate my Hive account. What Hive acount?!! Never had one, no-one mentioned this to me, no idea as to cost, etc. etc.
Panic on my part, phoned BG - told I do not need to have this account, unless I wish to control my CH from my phone. No, I do not need that.
Still have no idea as to cost of this if I did have it.
Feel rather annoyed that at no time was this mentioned , or cost given to me - until the day prior to installation get this email informing me that i need to activate it immediately.

Franbern. I downloaded the Hive app when I had my new boiler installed. I don't think it cost me anything. I have to say it's a god send. I can turn on the heating or hot water when I'm out as well as program both those from it.
The bit I was amazed at was when I was in China earlier this year. My lovely neighbour messaged me to say there wasn't enough hot water for her to wash up the cat dishes! I was able to reprogramme the hot water setting from China! I was blown away by being able to do that. (perhaps I've never grown up!)
Definity get it and get a tame teenager to help you set it up if necessary. Good luck.
