Moved in our 60s mainly because of location- in the countryside on a single track unmade road. We loved it there for 27;years but we, our visitors and delivery drivers found the road increasingly difficult. Not an easy place to live in winter if the weather was bad.
We wanted and got:
Detached house with privacy
Proximity to public transport and shops, hospital etc
Downstairs toilet and a room which could become a bedroom if necessary
A modern house with hopefully not too much maintenance
Somewhere people could find !
We thought we wanted
A large garden like we had before. We compromised on a smaller garden which now suits us and has better access
We didn’t expect
To upsize but are glad we did as it’s good to have the extra space especially for a family that’s grown
We lost
Spectacular views in a rural location but still have some views
We spent a long time finding the right house and were determined not to be pressured by buyers into moving before we were ready. It took two years and a lot of hassle but was worth it. I hope not to have to move again but who knows?
