I have had my living room painted and I am looking for a couple of sofas. As I don't drive and all 3 of furniture shops near me have only grey and beige and blue sofas. Are there any good online ones I can try? I'd love a patterned one but apparently it's not the done thing any more 😢

If you’d prefer a patterned one, go ahead and choose one. Why follow a trend, which will change again in a couple of years? Looking through home magazines or online could give you some ideas. Enjoy shopping. 😊

Sorry, should have said. I like ‘Country Living’ and ‘Ideal Home’ magazines, but there are a lot to choose from.

Go ahead and get whatever design you want, you live in your home not those imposing trends.
The only provisor of buying on line is you can’t sit on the sofa. I’d also check any return policy if it doesn’t suit.

Following with interest as I am looking to upgrade ours but don’t want grey either.

Most shops will offer a variety of fabrics, the display sofas are usually in plain colours to resell easily!
The most important thing is comfort and sofas that won’t dominate the room.
Try Barker and Stonehouse, Sofology etc.
You will have to wait a few weeks for delivery but it’s worth it.

Sofas and stuff have patterns and great reviews, we used John Lewis, but wanted plain leather.

I have bought from sofasofa, good quality and made in Britain. Some of their designs have loose covers, so you could have two different colours ( neither grey!)
I have a sofa in a stripe fabric: I love it.

Next have a good range of sofas. I believe you can pick from any fabric that they have, rather than just half a dozen allocated to that sofa.

I am also looking for a new sofa. I see a design I like but I don't like the fabric available. It is very frustrating but looking like Next is the answer.

Sofology and Buoyant also have some nice sofas. I do agree that it is good to sit before you buy - if you can.

Make sure that you check the measurements though. My SIL once bought a sofa, didn't measure it before buying and it wouldn't fit in the room.

If yours are still OK in structure, why not get them Re-Upholstererd? You can pick the fabric you want. The Upholster will come and see them, ready to quote you.
I had mine done last year, they where less than 10 Yr old GPlan, so I was reluctant to dump them, especially as it cost quite a lot.
I just wanted a different colour to match the room.
They were, completely changed restuffed cushions and it looks so different.
Think about if it would be worth doing to yours?

I have looked into re- upholstering our sofas as the frames are still good.

It cost about the same as a new sofa.

I’ve recently bought a new sofa from Sofasofa and am pleased with it. We also have sofas in the sittingroom from Alston, who are a British company. They have lots of choice of fabric. They’re not the cheapest but the sofas are very sturdy and will last a good long time.

My old sofas are too big for room had to take window out to get it in. And the largest is sagging in below cushions springs broken only guessing. This sofa will be getting chopped up for firewood, smile

I don’t where you heard that patterned sofas aren’t the done thing anymore but they very much are.

Had our 40 year old Wesley Barrell sofas recovered, new cushions etc because I can’t bear the thought of perfectly good furniture going to landfill. Two Parker Knoll chairs even older followed suit. Probably not cheaper than new but almost certainly better quality and in the fabrics I chose. Worth investigating if you like the existing furniture and it is the right size for the room.

Depending where you live, try Downtown near Grantham. You can order online and they have a sale on at the moment!

The grey craze is thankfully on its way out. My neighbour redecorated about 6 years ago and bought grey sofas and had grey furniture. Even with pictures on the wall it felt like sitting in a funeral parlour.

After two years she replaced the very expensive sofas with bright blue ones and the room looks so much better.

I bought my sofa from DFS online. It was during lockdown so I was unable to go to a store. I took a chance that the fabric, comfort, colour and description were accurate but 4 years on I am still delighted with it. Make sure you can return it without any hassle should it not be what you wanted.

My daughter has a tub chair very similar to this and it really cheers the room up.

You can order online sample pieces of fabric from many sofa places
