Please, does anyone on here have positive tales about smart meters?
I am due to have them fitted next Wednesday.
Apart from on here I have not heard adverse reports about them but GNers seem to have had problems and warn against them.
We have had them before but when we changed suppliers they were not compatible, I don’t recall any problems.
I cannot read my meters any more and received a shocking and obviously very wrong estimated reading two weeks ago and decided to have them.
Any positive views?

I don't get why people are so against them. We ignore ours as far as the display goes but the actual meters transmits our usage without our having to do anything.

Should also have said - We had ours because we had a car charger fitted. It has the added bonus that we don't have to empty the ironing cupboard blush to read the gas meter.

Never had any trouble with ours. We've had them several years.
Display has never been taken out of the box but I have a phone app to keep an eye on usage.
No more estimated bills, struggling to send in readings or letting a meter reader in.
We live in a city centre with good signal. I think problems arise in more rural areas. A lot of problems were a while ago with older generations of meters. They are much improved now.

Thankyou both I am now reassured.
We also kept the display in a drawer!!

I love not having to send readings. I don`t bother with using the monitor. No problems at all. It takes a while for meters to learn to `talk` to the hubs, don`t expect magic at first but once they settle down, they are marvelous

We don't have a display for ours either, but we've never had any problems with it. Not having to send readings means one less thing to remember too.

I think generally people are more likely to come on and complain about things that have gone wrong than to celebrate the things that work well. Sad really.

Never had a problem along with millions of other people, complainers are more likely to give reviews than satisfied customers.

Fine here, display is in the cupboard away from sight, but I have the Octopus app to keep an eye on usage.

Same as Jaxjacky. I use the Octopus App and never give it a second thought. Even the installer said I didn’t need use the IHD - so it’s still in the box.

I am now with Octopus but don’t know if I have the app being rather a technophobe.
I will ask my GD to check for me.

We have an electricity smart meter and have had one for some years and I am waiting to get a smart gas meter fitted.

!0 years ago or more, we bought something called an 'Owl' that told us how much power we used. If I put an appliance on consumption went up, turn it off it went down, a touch of teaching your grandmother to suck eggs, about it. We used it for a year, then it got put in a drawer, no idea where it is now.

I simply note down each months consumption when the bill comes in and any reasons for a change in the average.

We had a large bill last month because the programmer broke down and the heating was on 24/7 for a week until a new one could be fitted.

I note our quarterly f
