Glad it worked out okay for you, Poppyred
We needed doors/ plus drawer fronts and they quoted us over £4500 including fitting. That worked out at £290 per panel.
I wanted to avoid the disturbance of a new kitchen, but that seemed a bit excessive.
Perhaps I need to investigate a local firm.

Kitchen Magic / Joe’s Doors
(35 Posts)Would be very interested to know if anyone has any experience of these companies? They update kitchens by replacing cabinet doors and worktops and can fit new sinks and appliances. We will probably be downsizing in a couple of years but in the meantime our kitchen needs a facelift so this would hopefully be a cheaper alternative to a completely new kitchen.
Thank you!

Joe’s Doors replaced our kitchen doors last June. We are very pleased with the results and had no problems whatsoever.
Did they cost a lot less than a new kitchen when they start talking in terms of thousands of pounds for doors, that’s when I started to look at a new kitchen instead?
We have a very large kitchen/diner and felt that it was very good value for money.

Goodness - not AO ever!
We’ve found AO very good for all the things we’ve bought from them.
Why do you say not ever?
Goodness - not AO ever!
I've no experience with the companies you listed.
Our home is very old, my great grandparents owned it prior to my grandparents. My grandparents had local workers fit pretty antique walnut Austrian cabinets in the 1950s. IDK how this plan was ccomplished.
When we extended, years ago, we had the "new side" to the kitchen done up in bespoke sturdy wood cabinets painted white. In recent years, needing to change appliances, we called upon a cabinet maker to sort out frames and 4 doors, that side was again painted white - it's seamless, cost very little.
Daughter3 recently decided to remove ugly microwave from worktop to inside a cabinet. Work easily accomplished by a our cabinet maker.
Measure what you want, draw it - someone can accomplish it.
Depends on what state your carcasses are in. My friend has had new doors, but her carcasses were a little messy, wood chip on show.
How do you get to see work in someone's house, madeleine45? I wouldn't let strangers come into my house to look at work I'd had done
.
We had our kitchen done recently. I needed a new dishwasher, and the pipework meant that it had to be repositioned, which meant getting a new fridge and moving the washing machine. Other than that, however, the layout couldn't be altered, and the existing cabinets were in good condition, so we had a hybrid replacement door/new kitchen arrangement done by a local company. On the whole I am pleased with it, although it took a lot longer than they said it would, and it wasn't significantly cheaper than a completely new one. We got a new fridge and dishwasher (both integrated), new doors and pelmets/trims, some new cabinets, a new worktop and cplashback, and the company did all the plumbing, electrics etc.
I think that's the critical bit - you need one PM to oversee it all. Once you start with having to sort out the electrician, the tiler etc, there is far more potential for problems. It is even better if the company employs the tradespeople directly, rather than subcontracts.
The company we used specialises in kitchen makeovers, as opposed to being a general joinery/home improvements outfit, and I think that helped too.
Where in the country are you (roughly)?
My dishwasher was integrated, but when it died, I bought a free-standing one because it was so much cheaper to get it repaired.
I am so lucky with Euronics. I have a small branch about 3 miles away, and he will fit anything for me. He does charge for that and also for removing any appliance, but I feel it is well worth it because everything is up and working.
Hiring a carpenter and plumber may be cheaper in the long term if you do not need new doors etc. What a palaver.
Have you looked at AO? We needed a new dishwasher and they came and fitted to new one in to the existing fitted unit. You have to be sure of the size you order but they do offer fitting and disposal for extra cost. The website also has a very useful bit on how to measure your unit for the correct oven size to buy.
When we needed a new oven and microwave, also in fitted unit they did not have the sizes we needed, (that particular make had been an unusual size) so we phoned a local small kitchen company and they supplied the appliances and did some joinery work on the existing fitted unit to make it work.
Are either of these ideas any help?
Well B&Q was a no goer because they only sell the appliances not fit them.
I have some local people to ring tomorrow so will either keep going or just put up with what I have.
I don't see the point of spending money I don't really have on a new kitchen I don't really need.
What I now need to do is source my appliances and find a joiner, plumer and electrician to do it. I'm not sure it will save me any money though... I'll have to cost it all up and be a project manager just to get some new appliances in a very small kitchen!
I have moved around quite a lot over the years, and I tend to look around, speak to local people and find out the best local person I can and give them the work. i want to support local people where possible and also if you use a local person you can of course contact them quickly if need be. So far this has always worked well. I can usually see their work in someones house, and hear the comments by the owner. If I like the look of the work, and feel I have similar taste to the person I am visiting, I always try and get at least 3 opinions in general but have always been pleased with the results. They are usually cheaper than a very large company, you can often fit your times to suit each other and if you want something extra or slightly different to the norm, they are more likely to be happy to do it.
Sorry things didn’t work out with Dream Doors keepingquiet and thanks for your update. I hope you have more luck with B&Q and get the kitchen you want before too long!
Yes, I usually get there in the end!
That's a start then keepingquiet

The guy from Dreamdoors came this morning. He was very friendly (maybe too friendly) and was here ages!
I wasn't over impressed with the selection of doors he brought or the handle selection either, but he did say they could supply and fit all new appliances where I wanted them.
The quote he left was too much, especially as I don't need new doors!
He also wanted a deposit to get in the 'queue' and half payement in advance.
I don't normally pay anything in advance and just said I wasn't going to be pressed in to a decision. There was no hard sell, but the appliances were all Indesit which he called mid-range, and I would be paying a third more for the cupboards than for the appliances. So think it's a no from me.
I did however, speak to a nice girl from B&Q who said they could just fit the new cabinet for me if I pop down with the measurements which I hope to do later!
Haven't given up!
What a mess!
I really feel for you and hope you get sorted out OK.

We had a company out to quote for this and to be honest the quote was almost the same as having it all new. In the end we had a local man come and fit new doors, work tops and sink for a quarter of the price.
The big sell we got was it was less disruptive than a whole new kitchen but I still felt it was a lot for what we would get.We found the same with Joe’s doors and they tried to sell me lots of extras. I haven’t tried kitchen magic.
The company coming tomorrow are called Dreamdoors. It is really only the extras I'm needing!
Charleygirl I just found the number for my local Euronics supplier. He wasn't very friendly and at first said they would supply the appliances but couldn't fit them. He then contadicted himself by saying they would fit them but at extra charge, but I would still need to find an electrician and a joiner to have them fitted properly!
I really give up...
I just tried to contact Euronics. Their nearest store is quite a trek for me. You can't ring them because it is a franchise company so they don't give numbers for individual stores. It looks like I may have to make quite a journey to maybe find they can't help either...?
I'll wait and see what this guy says tomorrow.
All I want is a kitchen that works and makes my life easier- like a 21st century kitchen but 21st century suppliers are making it very difficult!

Euronicws do the same and the aftercare is so much better.
I think they are on-line only? I don't have a Euronics store nearby but may give them a go...

I have someone coming from a local company that does this on Tuesday.
I really only want to change my appliances but have been told these people are the go to company even though there is nothing wrong with my kitchen doors!
It all seems a bit crazy but if is the only way I can get a new oven...
I'll keep you posted!Have you tried Curry's? They will supply and fit new appliances.
Yes, I went to Currys and the salesman was extremely rude and told me I needed to go to a kitchen renovation company...I didn't believe him but after visiting a few other places it turns out he was right.
No one will fit an new integral electric oven with a microwave oven on top in to my present units. Therefore I have to have new cabinets just for this!
NotSpaghetti
I have read this twice and still don't understand.
Why are you going to all this bother and expense if you only want to change your appliances?
I'm not surprised you didn't understand because I didn't either!
I am want to renew all my appliances except the washing machine. There is nothing wrong with the cupboards- they are quality units which have outlived the appliances, which we re old and not working properly when I moved in eight years ago.
I thought it would be simple to go to a kitchen suppliers and replace most of them but found it was far more complicated because I don't need a double oven, which I have never used. The top oven just throws out smoke when it is turned on!
What I thought I could have was to replace the double oven with a single oven but have a microwave oven on top. I know people who have these. I don't have a microwave because I don't have much work surface so putting it into the cabinet makes sense to me- but not to appliance suppliers! Several have said this can't be done because of changes to the cabinetry- so I was told I need a kitchen fitter to do this by various suppliers.
It would seem that to have new doors by these door only fitters, would be the compromise although I don't know how much this would cost, so therefore I'm getting the sales person out tomorrow as I want someone to actually see what I'm talking about. Maybe he can't help, but maybe he can.
The other thing I would like is a small integrated dishwasher- when I was told I could (possibly) only have a free standing one.
So I don't know if I can get to where I want to be without having to fork out for (an almost) completely new kitchen!
Crazy I know, but the appliances have failed far sooner than the cupboards!
