Does anyone own a top-loading washing machine?

I had two top loaders in the past, Hotpoint, they were very good.
The only thing that stopped me having a third was cost, they became very expensive and also they use a lot of water.
I can’t remember that I had to fill it from the tap, in fact I couldn’t have done as it was fully automatic.
Big bonus was that if you forgot to add something you could just lift up the lid and pop it in.

For reference I have just checked the Hotpoint out and see that now they are on a par price wise with most machines.
I wonder if the fact that they use a lot of water has made them more competitive in price.

I've always had top loaders except for s brief fling with a front loader. It was an awful thing and the towels came out all stiff and rough. I was so happy when it died and I was able to go back to my top loader which washed the clothes properly. The brand I like is an NZ one called Fisher n Paykel.

Have you looked at the reason for the low water pressure in your Bosch machine? A plumber might be able to help.
I had a top loader when I was newly married in the early 80's which would not fit under a worktop. It was housed in a utility room.

We got a plumber in when our washing machine said the water pressure was too low. He got to the bottom of the problem and sorted it out. Please check that out before you go to all the palaver of a top loader.

Perhaps a plumber could stick his hand down a hole int’ road and turn the main tap on more fully.
My son did that as it had been low pressure before. It is quite common.

We’ve had one , top loader, for years now ( about 20) I love it, much better than our previous front loader which only lasted about 5 years. I use good old Aldi soap powder, works well and cheap. I run it 3 times a week .

I have a Hotpoint top loader which I bought 2nd hand. I love it but it still has to be filled automatically. You can't do it manually.

Our washer machine is a top loader.

I like not bending to remove wet items.

We have a new Bosch washing machine which is having problems with low water pressure. Currently investigating how this can be fixed, but all the solutions seem to be expensive and very disruptive (taking out cupboards, digging up the floor). I’m thinking that a top-loader that I can fill from the kitchen tap would be a simpler and cheaper solution.

Has anyone bought one recently. If so, please tell me:

How easy is it to move? I would have to pull it out from under the work surface every time I want to use it.
How well does it wash/spin?
Which brand would you recommend?
Where did you buy it?
What kind of guarantee did it come with?

Big interrogation, I know, but my husband is very sceptical and I want as much ammunition to counter negativity as possible. And also to decide whether it’s a good idea or not.

PS: my mum had a double top loader in the distant past. Washday was a ritual - pull it out, fill it up from the tap in the sink. When the wash was finished, fish the wet washing out of the washing part with giant tongs and load into the spinner part. Then put it through a mangle. I was fascinated by the whole process . it now seems very labour intensive but she loved it. Compared to washing by hand, it was a miracle!

OP are you confusing a top loader automatic washing machine with a twin tub? The top older automatic would be filled from the mains water supply and the twin tub filled with a hose from the kitchen tap.

I loved my Hotpoint top loader, yes it was plumbed in. It was great at cleaning the laundry and you could add the stray socks by lifting the lid during the cycle. The only problem was it couldn’t go under the counter so took up a lot of room.
The washing repair man, for a different machine, said they lasted for ever because the drum was vertical and the bearings were stronger.

Had one for many years. It was fantastic and took a very big load. I could wash duvets no problem.

A stitch in Time - maybe what I want doesn’t exist. A top loader that I can fill from the tap, but which is one tub automatic.
