Koi carp left in pond by previous owners

Garden centre which sells ponds? Local zoo? Local large house with gardens?

Ours were taken by the local heron.

Koi fish are worth a lot of money, you might want to find a site where you can sell them. If you Google koi fish for sale you will find lots of results which will perhaps offer somewhere you can get rid of them.

Please get help in removing them from the pond, they are very sensitive and delicate and very beautiful, they can live for 25-30 years if properly kept.

Retail outlets won’t take them in case

We advertised ours on Fb marketplace, they went within a day of two.
Or there is Gumtree and Nextdoor.

Hi we have recently moved here, the previous owners have left their fish. We want to empty the pond. I’ve already put a post up on fb offering them for free. If I get no takers, what can we do with the fish - any ideas welcome.

We made a pond and put two small cheap goldfish in it. Apparently fish breed like rabbits, who knew? and some of the babies wre white, silver, red etc. Within a couple of years we had more goldfish than the pond could accommodate.

Some were taken by herons. Give-away ads in the local paper rehomed many, and others left home in a bucket and went to live in a large and disused flooded gravel pit (shhh).

Any local animal rescue groups? We have a few locally. Pets at home perhaps. Local garden groups? Place advert on vets noticeboard?

Never mind the carp, but please could you wait until late Summer to fill in pond- which is probably full of wildlife at the moment. Newt and frog tadpoles, dragonfly larvae, and so much more.

Put an ad at your local vets?

You might contact the RSPCA for local suggestions (and possibly to report the previous owners).

It was very irresponsible of the previous house owners to leave their fish and expect you to deal with them. They are beautiful and deserve better, and so do you! Hope you find a good home for them , please try and get expert advise.

When we moved into our current house I was thrilled to have a pond. Was assured there were no fish. After a week we started cutting back the extremely overgrown hedges to find a foot long koi ! Hidden in the overgrown reeds. A friend took the fish, it moved with them to their new house but was subsequently taken by an otter.....
I reckon advertising it for free to a good home would be a start

Maybe contact the previous owners and ask them to come and remove their fish?

We sold ours on Gumtree/facebook. We would have given them away, but didn’t want some of the idiots ‘free stuff’ attracts. We had loads of interest from all over the country. But make sure your buyers know what they are doing with the transportation. Any other wildlife can be relocated to a pond, or canal near you. We haven’t had a pond for several years, but the toads still happily live in the garden. However my neighbors have ponds.

We found an ad on Gumtree . Our fish had got too big for a small garden pond , they now are living in the moat of a stately home!

When we moved in 1998, the garden had a large pond and lots of fishes and palmate newts. I tried everything to keep the water clear. Finally 5 years ago we reorganised the garden so the pond had to go. By then we had been cleaned out by an otter and only had 3 garden centre goldfish left.

I agree. Supposing the koi pond is a "natural" pond, it would be sad to destroy such an area that has so much wildlife, such as frogs, newts, etc. that are so very important in fighting garden pests such as slugs, mosquitoes.
