Cluttered bedroom in need of new carpet.

I moved the mattress onto the double bed in the other bedroom, and the 2 bases and drawers (plus contents) on their side went downstairs into the dining room, along with the dressing table. Bedside cabinets one on top of the other in the bathroom On fitting day both wardobes were emptied, contents stacked on the now triple height bed in the other bedroom. Fitters fitted half the carpet, moved the empty wardrobes onto fitted half, fitted carpet to other half, then moved wardobes back. And were kind enough to move the bed, mattress, dressing table and bedside cabinets back in!
All done in less than two hours.

Thanks for the replies, it gives me something to think about.

I emptied the wardrobe by taking every thing out on the hangers and put them them in the other bedroom, moved the small cabinet into the other room too and they layed the carpet and moved the empty wardrobe, there was no bed in there. Why not ask in your carpet shop, most will work with furniture if it isn't too heavy. Do you really need to keep all the stuff you have? Perhaps paying someone to de-clutter would be cheaper and easier.

We live in a tiny, two bedroom bungalow. In the last two years we have had carpet replaced in both bedrooms and the living room. Not at the same time! All with the same company.

We chose a local supplier for our carpets, they came to measure and understand what would need doing before the order was placed. The price included furniture moving.

We emptied furniture, easier as it's a bungalow and we have a large conservatory to put the contents in. Moved a fire small items out. We have ottoman beds. We emptied them, the fitters stripped them down and moved them out. They then moved the large furniture out - blocking the bathroom which did cause a minor panic - the old carpet was removed, in went the new, everything put back. All in around an hour for each room.

Carpet fitters are very used to moving furniture, they just need to know what will be entailed before pricing.

When our living room was decorated we moved the tv and other electronic stuff out. Emptied wooden furniture. The painter moved empty furniture as he needed to, covering it all to ensure no damage. Agin he wasn't surprised at being asked to do it.

Your idea isn't a bad one bookworm, it would be very expensive though. It might worth asking a local carpet supplier to come and look and tell you what they could work around. You may be pleasantly surprised.

When we had a new carpet fitted in the bedroom, the carpet fitters relocated the bed to another room, moved all the furniture out and put it all back again. It did cost a bit of extra but was worth every penny.

A cheaper solution, once you have got rid of whatever you do not acutally need or want to keep, would be to buy a couple of large tarpaulins and some tent pegs, or a party tent and move stuff outside into your garden, while you have new carpeting or flooring put down.

You probably do still want to hire a couple of strong youngsters to move stuff outside and back indoors again, but I think it would still be cheaper than a removal company and storage.

I have a bit of an ongoing argument with my son over the second bedroom, which also stores quite a few things. I am having it decorated plus new carpet in a few weeks. My son is going to help move stuff out but thinks I should not have any storage in there, whereas to my way of thinking, since I will only rarely have guests, it is a room that has to be used, and used however I want it to be. Decorators and carpenters can work around a bed and maybe one other large item.

If you have enough bedrooms I would do as blue14 suggests. Carpet fitters are used to working around a certain amount of furniture. You can check with the carpet company re how they are prepared to work.
I know someone who recently had to clear out and paint a large cellar. They bought a very big tent and pitched it in the garden. The contents of the cellar were stored/sorted/disposed of from the tent over several weeks. It saved a lot of money and was a very successful method which enabled them to accomplish everything in their own time. I'm only too aware that not everyone has a garden large enough to do this of course.

We're wondering whether to hire a man with a van or a skip, mainly to clear the garage out and other stuff cleared when we had the kitchen renovated.

Would the cost of all you require actually be worthwhile? Removal men are not cheap so the outlay might not be justified.

I don't think it's necessary to put things in storage for a new carpet.

You could move the smaller furniture out into the landing or another bedroom. Do you have space in the other rooms?
The carpet fitters regularly fit carpets with the bed in the room.

I have the same problem.
Nowhere to move the furniture to - only two bedroom and a minute landing!

I keep wondering how to get this done but I think your idea would be very expensive.
